    Steam Install (ffxi updating fail)

    I admit there is not much info on the web regarding my specific issue...

    I bought the Steam version of FFXI Ultimate Collection and here's how it goes...
    (mind you this is on two different PC's and Vista and Win 7)

    POL updates just dandy and I get to start updating the 18,000+ files for FFXI.

    Every 5 minutes I get POL-0250 Error code. It will be in the middle of a file, downloading at the speed of light, when *BAM*! It drops me... Kicks me offline, have to log in my SE ID and one time password all over again!

    I have all the proper TCP and UDP ports opened, spoke with my provider and ensured that everything is proper, kosher and etc.

    On the first PC it did this until it reached 16,000~ files left to download then it streamed through the rest.

    Same exact symptoms on my new PC.

    This is killing me and I'm hoping I might get lucky and get to the 16000 files to go marker and smoothe sailing from then on, but I'm not holding my breath.

    I look at it this way:

    If FFXI ever crashes, PC dies, Virus infects, another update comes along.........(few weeks from now), then I want this fixed!

    any tips or info would be absolutely awesome!!!

    I see lots of wireless, have you tried a firm wired connection directly to your internet access point (modem, whatever).

    You need to rule out the possibility this is your wireless network being interrupted by an outside source.

    yes the first PC was hard wired. Tried the alternate LAN port and same thing. Tried wireless on that same PC same thing.

    This new PC is unable to hardwire into the router due to the router location... but 99.9% similar symptoms

    Does the POL client still have the option in "Network settings" to enable uPnP Portmap?

    Also have you tried testing your router in DMZ mode just to see if anything different occurs (I know you said you've cleared all ports, but just to make sure it is 99.9% not the router).

    Just trying to cover all your bases from things I remembered doing when I played XI years ago.

    currently at 14,000~ files and counting down.

    Updated windows and didn't help any. I was thinking about downloading that Win 7 POL file from ffxi website but i don't think it's a compatability issue.

    An afterthought... I've never been able to get the port checker software to work on XP, Vista or 7 but I did check and my UDP and TCP ports I have opened in my router (when pinged) never get to my PC. Port checker says it can talk to my router though.

    POL used to have an option to check uPnP (By default it was disabled, don't ask me why SE is retarded). If its not there anymore my guess would be that they finally made it auto-check the network you're on every time you start POL.

    As for DMZ, its pretty common on most routers.

    Well you don't technically need to assign a static IP just to test it for a few minutes. But if you want to longterm then yes (for example I use DMZ on my Xbox/Wii/etc. to ensure everything is open full throttle for them)

    I'm pretty sure he's only using it for updating. Unless he has an ISP in Somalia, he should be fine for short durations.
