    Windows live movie maker

Ok, since I've "upgraded" to windows 7, I haven't found a version of windows movie maker that's compatible with windows 7.

So now, I have windows live movie maker.

What I don't like about this is anything you add is automatically apart of the movie.

When I'm combining different clips, I could keep them up top and split them, then add each piece individually as I wanted to to the film, but now I'm unable to do that w/ windows live movie maker.

Is there a setting or something I'm missing to get the classic style back?

2.6 is supposed to work with 7. http://www.microsoft.com/download/en...ylang=en&id=34

Is that one of the ones you tried? It installed fine for me just now on 7 64-bit.

Live Movie Maker is well known to be a lesser program in terms of features, and 2.6 is the version people seem to be using to get back to the functionality of the older version. At least, that's what I can come up with a minute of Googling.

Though, yeah, you might want to just transition to a different editor.

May want to poke around http://www.videohelp.com/tools/secti...-editors-basic (or the other Editor sections). Virtualdub may just require some learning too, I dunno, I've not done a lot of video editing outside of stuff I did for classes back in the day, and a lot of that was motion graphics in After Effects.

I could guess at other reasons it might be larger...but more or less it comes down to that media suitable for editing is generally larger (often much larger) than the same media in a distribution format. IE, a multi-layered Photoshop document can get into the tens, if not hundreds of megabytes. The end result can be compressed into a JPG that's a fraction of the size. Vegas is probably keeping things in a format that's actually good to edit in (possibly converting clips to that when you import them). My guess would be that you need to export/render/whatever it calls it the project to a compressed format to get it down in size.

You can change the codec it uses for rendering. If that's too much of a pain you can be like me and use Super to convert it afterwards.

If that link doesn't work you'll have to navigate the really shitty site. It seems to me the better free software is the shittier the site it is hosted on.

    http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html

Click Start Downloading SUPER at the bottom which takes you to the next page and click on "Download and Use" and finally after that click "Download SUPER setup file" at the bottom. It's a pain in the ass but the program is great.
