    Ask BG: Internet moneys

    hey BG,

I'll be needing to accept a one-time transfer of around $150 from someone to pay for a ticket to an event I can no longer go to. they do not live in my area so we'll have go do the internet money thing. I don't have a paypal account (and frankly don't want one, fuck those guys) and I don't feel comfortable giving out my full bank account number to someone in order to do an online transfer. what are my best options for receiving a small one-time amount of internet moneys?

thanks for your help. I feel like it's a lame question, but I trust some of you have done this before and know what services are the best.

edit: also, I'm not likely to know whoever ends up snagging my ticket personally, so there will be no trust level there to speak of. just FYI.

Bitcoin works well actually, since there's no fees (except maybe for converting it to cash), and it can't be reversed.

    Otherwise western union.

Have them buy you an amazon gift code. No fees and they have... everything.

Do NOT use paypal to accept a single transfer. They'll flag it as suspicious and make you give them a couple dozen forms of ID before you can have access to your money.

Others have mentioned Amazon Payments. I, being one of the many people who hate PayPal, have used it several times and have never been disappointed. If you already do business with Amazon, there's no reason not to take advantage of another one of their services.

It's important to note that Amazon Payments takes longer to process deposits than the dreaded PayPal. However, there's good reason. Unlike PayPal, which will give someone money and then snatch it back if a transaction doesn't suit their fancy, Amazon makes sure that everything is in order before letting the cash go through. Being responsible takes longer, but is absolutely worthwhile.

Could mail them a money order or cashier's check if you want to take the non-electronic route, takes two days to deliver usually
