    Different type of HDMI Cables?

    Hi BGers,

My parents recently purchased a Samsung UN60F7100 240 Hz LED Smart TV..I was browsing around looking for HDMI cables but there seems like a lot of them out there and I don't know which is best. The guy at BestBuy tried to sell my parents this HDMI cable from Monster for $70, saying since the TV is 240 Hz, they'd need better HDMI cable(?) Is that necessary?

From browsing around this is what I found:

Cheetah on Amazon: $6 for 10 feet

BlueRigger on Amazon: $7 for 6.6 feet

RedMere on Monoprice: $15 for 15 feet

Are they (High Performance) any different from the regular HDMI cables? What should I get and Do you have any recommendation? Please suggest. Thank you!

all HDMI cords are the same, if there is something that looks different its because the cord is messed up in some way.

    edit:
the only thing you might get with a high price cable is one that may last longer. but at a price of like 2~5 for a hdmi cord who cares if the thing gives out? I bought a lot of cables like 20 and have given them out. one came DOA and all but 2 others are still working 3 years later. two gave out mostly because they where moved a lot from PC to cable box over and over so the tip is lose. outside that they all work like a charm(and even the broken ones worked if you had it fit in just right, but I just threw them out)

I'd suggest better performance cables if you are running the cable long distances. High quality cables have better shielding and are generally made with better materials which helps protect from interference and keep the signal intact. I actually recommend Audioquest cables instead of monster if you want to purchase the better performing cables. The monster HDMI ends are way to large. They are so long they actually cause the cable to sag which makes for a loose connection, and can ruin both the port of your device and/or the cable itself! Other low quality brands like choice select or bluejean cables have too large of an end in my experience as well.

The only difference you'll realistically see in HDMI is if you're needing the specific options offered in the newer standards of HDMI (I believe the highest is 1.4b ATM?). Most HDMI cords are 1.3 or 1.4.

And that's really only applicable if you using HDMI into a 120hz computer monitor or have a 4k tv. Watching TV/console gaming/movies the HDMI cord you're using makes no difference, since those are all going to be capped by the source signal, which is never going to be higher then 60 fps.

Have bought 6 (including two for friends), never had an issue with any of them.

i buy in bulk most of the time so I hit up monoprice but amazon works well too. go and buy 20~30 cables and monoprice will win out.

doing the math its about half the price at 20 cables as an fyi. Yes yes, who needs to buy 20 cables you may ask? the answer is easy, its not hard to give one out every week or two lol.

If you look around you can get some for around $2 each with shipping on amazon. I'm not sure why people think monoprice is cheap. Here: www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B0002L5R78/ $2.21 each. If you're not in any hurry you could probably find some shipped from china for less.

I'd never spend more than $2.5 on an hdmi cable.

Not even if you buy 500 will monoprice be cheaper.

If they're going to just sit stationary plugged in, any $2 cord will do. If they're going to be transported and rolled up a lot(I have to do this constantly) you probably want a thicker gage of cable, usually the only difference between expensive and cheap is that the expensive is a bit more durable, anything that advertises as being better for actual video or audio is full of crap.

id look around on amazon as someone pointed out. Check to see if you can find it cheaper. I have no clue if it holds true for larger cables but I very well might buy mine from amazon for 6 feet.

It's been a while since I've bought cables but back when I did monoprice was the cheapest around. Especially for specialty cable like a 25ft DVI to HDMI cable that I needed once.

Not sure about 25 ft ones, but for standard sizes, amazon has always been cheaper. It can just be a pain to find them sometimes since every single one is listed as $.01 on the search pages, since they don't consider shipping costs there...

Monoprice used to be cheaper maybe 2+ years ago or more before Amazon started competing in the cheap cable market. Monoprice used to be THE place to go no matter what type of cable you wanted, and especially if you wanted 6-20ft of HDMI or 10-100ft of CAT5.

Now it's completely different, Amazon is better in every department. And with Prime, you can't go wrong.

    Spoiler: show

Amazon has always been way cheaper, unless you're buying from amazon itself and not some other seller.Amazon themselves still charge way too much, nothing has really changed there.
