Gauging interest in a new Eden single-box server

Greetings, fellow adventurers of the FFXI Private Server Community!

As our community continues to flourish, we've witnessed the rise and fall of various servers, each striving to deliver a nostalgic 75-era experience with modern quality of life enhancements tailored to our diverse playstyles.

Since its inception in 2018, Eden has thrived thanks to dedicated developers continually enriching the gameplay with era-accurate content and bug fixes. Yet, a topic that stirs debate among us players is the practice of dual-boxing. We believe there's a significant demand for a new single-box Eden server that would utilize the same codebase but provide players with a completely fresh start. (Character transfers from the current Eden or any other server would not be allowed.)

Our current objective is to gauge the genuine interest in a single-box Eden server before embarking on this endeavor. To this end, we've crafted a straightforward Google Form to collect player feedback anonymously. Your participation will provide invaluable data to assess the viability of this project. After some time, Godmode will take the data we have gathered to Eden’s staff to evaluate feasibility and bandwidth. If there is substantial interest, we hope this project will come to fruition!

Here are some highlights of the Eden server for those who are curious:

-Mog Wardrobes introduced, gated by mission progression
-Original HNM respawn timers and windows
-Nomad Moogles in Mhaura/Selbina for convenience
-Auction House with unlimited listings and 30-day expiration
-Level sync functionality
-CoP difficulty reminiscent of the 75-era
-Ballista fully operational
-Various additions up to ToAU content including Salvage, ZNMs, Nyzul
(some of this could be subject to change. If this project proceeds that would be on the developer team to begin discussing. We will ensure feedback is passed along.)


Please note that we are a dedicated group of players assisting in data collection and are not affiliated with the server staff. Our sole aim is to contribute to making this project a reality!

While the multiboxing is arguably an issue. It isn't one serious enough to restart Eden over. Nor, IMO, is it liable to produce the desired results.

We are not on staff. We can only provide information on what the current code looks like. Any changes that would come about for a new server release would be something for the actual dev team to discuss if they decide to move forward. Our goal is to provide some numbers so that Godmode can evaluate whether it would be worth putting in the time and effort, which seems pretty reasonable to us. That's why we wanted to help out (Edit: We'll make sure to pass along any feedback.)

I know I'm probably not the target but another pure-vanilla reboot of XI just isn't appealing. I know this forum has a bumpy relationship with Horizon(Trigger warning for spicy), but the only reason I hopped on board Horizon, and never any other community server before it, for the time i did is because they actually went so far as to try and shake things up and rebalance stuff to give veterans players something new to look forward too, for better or worse regardless of if one thinks they succeeded or not, they tried to add flavor to a very played out idea, and some changes landed well (Some SMN BP adjustments were amazing, for instance). I liked that they added some "new" items by repurposing dats from Lv76+ Era too.

Wish they had found a way to add new NMs, or fix useless era ones with adjusted or new drops, if a 75 Era server is going to get my ears up, its going to have to be under the intention to keep the core gameplay, but revamp things to make it new and exciting again for veterans players.

But thats also a very fine line and not an easy ask for a development staff of basically unpaid volunteers. So either way, If you do decide to branch out for another vanilla XI experience, I hope you find what you're looking for, and goodluck!

I have made peace with Horizon, and have plenty of positive things to say about it. If I do have anything negative to say about it for whatever reason then it is generally not going to be public. Then again one day something outrageous could happen that I comment to, but point stands.

Eden db is the main reason people dont play there besides whatever others say, or i would play, ppl really hate db thats a Big deal there and others using db but not them because they dont like and feel less.

A new single box server could be great but idk if people Will play with Horizon there, you Will never know till you try, i think stadistics and data doesnt represent the real people you just have to let them know to eveyone, marketing etc somehow so they decide, i would play it, i think many Will do, but in the end i dont know, maybe 300, maybe 500, 900? 1000+? Who knows, there is a great respect for eden in the community which is weird because we shit on all except eden, eveyone talks about if eden release a single box etc

I play on Horizon but i love fresh starts and would stick with eden 2 also for era accurate and specially with toau that Horizon wont have in at least one year more so if you want to release now its the best time

I love Horizon but i Will love eden 2 i would play both, nothing to do in Horizon anyways or Who knows but for sure i would play eden till 75s nyzul salvaje etc and keep around also Horizon for new content

Just remember to inflate server numbers by about 50% in search results, it's very simple to do for the server owner and has been proven to be a successful tactic. Due to the first day having lots of players in the same area handful of areas, they will believe numbers can be much bigger and this leads to more people joining.

It's so effective, as proven by Horizon you're stupid to not do it.

Why not a WOTG 2009-2010 server instead of TOAU and work on whats left bit a bit like eden did with toau in the last years? With eden quality it can be done?

If it just to redo everything we did on Eden, I will pass, I can see a server like this getting interest if it work as a progression server with a roadmap (having everything up to the end of ToAU already done help a lot in making roadmap!) with the premise of slowly working on WoTG and going up to the final 75 patch (like everyone on Eden want stuff like Pizza!) would prolly attract people that don't like end of ToAU balance. (Also some custom change like pup H2h skill that SE eventually made further down the line are not evil, please give 1h A+!)

One of the reason the reason of Horizon success is they managed to make people believe there will be content forever with 75 feels (even if they might be stuck at COP forever) so why would I join a server that has an end that we just experienced on Eden instead of playing on a server that might go further ?

I don't disagree. I think moving towards WotG eventually could be a lot of fun. I just hope to see the project get enough interest so it can proceed. I would be curious to see what things might get changed, too. I'll check numbers again later and see what the count is as well since I missed Spicy asking.
