its more about the replay value than story. you can beat the story then quit, or beat it on DMD (ridiculously hardest difficulty) and try to get better (getting S ranks).

personally, ive played this game for a long time (logged at least 150+hours) and i still have a lot to improve on, even though i got A and S rankings on DMD

Yeah, the real fun is always DMD mode, although in DMC3 they fucked up DT mode for the enemies, DMC1 had the perfect DMD mode, I'll never forget how awesome it was to fight Nightmare Beta 3. The story is worth playing for the first time, because it's interesting, DMC2 failed in my eyes cause the story was worthless and the game was too easy.

Even though DMC2 DMD was great when fighting Argosax cause all his heads attacked at the same time, but DMC3 DMD was only fun fighting Vergil cause of the Phantom Swords (memories...)

Oh, there was this 1 video of a guy owning Beowulf in like a minute and 30 seconds on DMD with Royal Guard, it was so fucking awesome...

Anyway, this is why DMC will always be my favourite action game, cause it takes skill to look cool and be good not just mindless button bashing (hello God of War).

What style are you using? Royal Guard parrying destroys all the difficulties except DMD mode, then the guard release is not nearly as effective.

That's so not true, Just Release destroys in any mode, even more so if you combine it with DTE.

In anycase, Virgil 2 is easy, if you can't use RG then use Trickster and combo him after his combos finish and retreat until his next opening. If he DTs then you DT and beat the shit outta him until you force him out of it. Not much else too it, just like the rest of the game all you need is practice, a sharp eye and good reflexes.

trickster is the most basic way of beating any vergil fight. small jump+sky star is the best dodging maneuver for him, since sky star makes u almost invincible for .3 secs and gets you quick distance. also dash (only a single one) makes you invincible for like half a second and gets you style points if done right. the best weapon for vergil is beowulf (3 killer bees can deactivate his DT) and rebellion since its good at single enemies.

RG is only good if you have really (insanely) good reflexes since vergil can take you from 100% health to 0% in one combo in DMD

See I am on Virgil 2, and the only style I have used is Trickster since it just started me with this one obviously.
I have never even touched RG. It is not like I can just start with it from the middle of the game can I?
The game is pretty difficult in Trickster anyway, and I hear RG is pretty difficult to use.

care to explain how you have the reflexes to JG vergil3? did u just turbo control it? >.>

i just find it hard to believe you can RG everything in DMD as if it was nothing since many of the dmc3 vets can barely do that, unless you used items or super dante

also, you can re-do previous levels to level up styles and farm orbs

Royal Guard release loses a ton of luster in DMD mode. Still my favorite style but I think the risk vs reward of the other styles beats it out. But to each his own. If you can beat DMD with Royal Guard easier than the otherstyles (does not apply to diffulties below DMD) then hats off to you.

Not a lot of people thought DMC3 was hard, but it's certainly more challenging then 90% of the action games out there. If you still can't beat Virgil with Trickster you should level up your swords and styles some more, it's easy to attack Virgil, check if your combo hit and carry on doing it, if it didn't then dash away.

I can beat certain levels/bosses much easier with RG, some enemies I can never get the timing consistantly right. In large encounters it's easy to save up 3 orbs and use Just Release DTE on an easier enemy and kill the harder ones.

Misterbob makes is sound like you can just pick up RG and just Parry away. It took me a shit load of practice and playing to be even half as effective, I couldn't use it now for shit cause I haven't played in ages
