Ever have an e-friend pass away?

I was browsing KI and found a thread on my server forum which just..made my heart sink.

We had a small LS meet a few months back where the sackholder announced that one of our members was diagnosed with cancer. Next two hours was spent pretty much with everyone wishing her well, no one really knowing the severity of it.

Flash forward to today where I logged in, read the LSMessage, and nearly bawled my eyes out. It seemed that our best wishes fell on deaf ears, she had passed away on Tuesday from cancer complications.

Still trying to take this in..as I've played online games for close to 8 years now and have dealt with a ton of false "Did you know so and so? yea, well he got run over by a bus" reports. Only to see the said "dead person" still posting on the forums a day later.

Sorry for the rather long post, anyone with any similar experiences?

ive seen people fake their death then get owned when people research it and find out it was a huge lie (online that is)

In the world of the internet death claims are a dime a dozen like you said, but I genuinely feel for you in this regard as it sounds pretty truthful.

Have to do your best to take things in stride, it's a fact of life. You gotta play the cards you're dealt. Again I'm sorry to hear that.

I did know somebody who passed away, but I only knew them over the internet. I was actually quite torn.

Genrou of the Bahamut server died around this time last year. Umm.. I dunno who else I've "known" that has died.

Thankfully no, I've not had an experience of the sort, but I will say this: nearly everyone you ever play these games with is going to be gone, never to be heard from again, eventually. Hopefully with most it's not because of an untimely death, but it's a recurring theme in the online gaming world. There's a ton of people from other games as well as ffxi that I wish I could talk to again but I know I likely never will. All you can really do is basically the same thing you'd do if a friend/family in real life disappeared or died, which is to hope (pray if that's your kinda thing) that they're in a better place and move on while always remembering what that person loved about you and trying to keep that part of you strong.

It was the shell leader of the first ls I joined in the game, fell under similar circumstances. I believe he died of lung cancer, about two years ago. Was definitely a solemn month or two, as he was an incredibly awesome person to talk to and hang around online :\

His wife still plays occassionaly, but definitely not as much anymore.

Someone in my first LS ever (I had this LS, although remade once since the original shellholder had quit for a while) died from a heart attack suddenly one day. His wife had to come on and tell us the news. It was pretty sad, he was such an amazing guy. I felt really bad for his children too. It does suck, although you don't know the person.

Despite it was somone's character who died irl, I still thought it was pretty fucking funny. It was stupid in their part, putting it in Winterspring, a contested area. I mean come on now, really.... they were asking for it.

something about them being in a building that was gonna be demolished and died that way
