Server Transfers - Do we want them?

Now that SE has announced that it will be possible in the future to transfer characters between servers, what do people actually think of it? Express your opinions here. Let us pretend, just for a moment, SE is listening. Do you want them or not?

'Cus I don't. The idea sounds horrible to me. I don't remember a whole lot of the population caring much for it either(I remember a lot of asking about end-game fixes and job fixes, but not this). I think it could unbalance a lot of things for FFXI.

Even if you add a fee, it wouldn't prevent much. Most people who want to hop servers are the ones who don't give a damn about spending extra RL money on a game.

I'm not a fan of the idea either, it takes the "Grab what gear you can get from linkshell X and run" thing to a whole new level.

Again if you think server migration will affect economies much it wont, everything will stabilize overall and prices will tend to even out to be the same over time. If people are willing to pay money to get a bit more gil then they are basically buying gil themselves.

The major purpose of the server migration was to allow players to choose where they want to go. Most players will have better reasons to change servers than gil, most will want to be with longtime friends or just a change of scenery since some servers are abundant with HNM/Sky/whateverls.

If someone cares only for gil and not their friends on a server than they are retarded. Let them spend their RL money to switch servers.

During the last open worldshift, a small number of players from my social LS decided to move to Midgar to be with friends they had in NA Beta. Now some time has passed and they regret their choice and would like the option to worldshift their characters back to Ragnarok. For this paticular case, I would like to have a worldshift available.

Take Ryunoire on Midgar (please!). She had a crap rep on another server, came to Midgar, talked people into trusting her/working with her, and in the end did the same thing.

Completely unnecessary. World passes were there for a reason. Just because you made pals with someone over a forum 2 years later doesn't mean you need to be catered to so you can change servers to be with them.

I say there would need to be a delay between doing it, you can only do it when SE is holding migration things, a not-so-cheap RL fee, a gil fee (maybe even all of your gil?), and some other kind of penalty (-50%/333 lots max for a month? ) for it to not be too harmful. I would rather be able to put characters/content IDs that are on 1 account to be on separate accounts, though.

Secondly, no. We don't need an influx of retard cross-server applications and RMTers fucking up the already delicate economy. We also don't need incentive for people to steal items and jump the server to avoid the consequences. Screw server migration.

I like my server the way it is. My server is nice and semi quiet without near the level of rmt infestation as other servers.(sky got controlled by rmt for maybe 3 months max as an extimation before massive bannings hit)
I dont like gilsellers but I do prefer them to be dumb and stupid vs the ones that have the capacity to take down AV and run around with defending rings/ridill.

I also prefer being able to tell who did x bad thing and boycott or aviod them. Take for example some dumbass war named tsukito. He once decided to ninjalot an optical hat. While the hat generally isnt nearly as great as it used to be thanks to the wal turban it was still pretty bad. Immediately afterwards the entire server got informed of his actions with several people making an effort to even translate it into jp so that he couldnt even get a party from them incase a jp decided to invite somone that spoke english for once.
This guy was literally within 500exp of lv 70 (delevel+r3 during a fight)and as a result of his actions for over a month he didnt get a single exp invite before being forced to quit due to becoming literaly one of if not the most hated guy on the server. He later claimed via forum to have regained a lv 70 warrior a few months later(probably via much funding from ige.com I'd say) but that part doesnt matter. The point is that People who do such things can expect severe reprecussions from literally the entire server if they steal an item that is not thiers.
In an environment with server migration as an option That same individual easily could have migrated to another server while being relatively untrackable and it would be much more difficult to enforce such an "embargo" on said player as the only options availiable to spread messages via forums where most people wont care due to such things being trivial compared to other drama they have seen in the past or just have more asshats in it.

Basically I prefer a server to be one where the first guy to buy a ridill, D ring, or rare abj from RMT will literally have the wrath of the entire server inflicted upon him vs one where people either dont care or it's impossible to punish said idiot in any form.

As much as I'd enjoy to switch servers to hang out with some other people, the shitty people will be server switching even more and I'd rather just put up with the 1 shitty LS on my server than a few more LS's crossing over to Shiva. Shiva overall is pretty nice compared to the other servers I've heard about, so I'm fine with things as they are.

How so? Do you really believe ppl are gonna shell out money just to make some quick gil by switching to another server? Do you think that no one else on another server has the exact same idea? The economy will balance out once ppl decide to play the stock market. There isnt a reason to migrate just to make gil. If they are just going to make gil they would leave all their friends.

Just wait and see but dont assume just because migration is going to come that it will only cause gil problems. Theres the problem about reputation but people can always ask around on forums or from other friends on other servers. More or less people who migrated before probably have been regretting migrating before and want to come back to their first server. My friends on Hades wish to migrate back to Midgard for that exact same reason.

You seem to forget each server is different. I do imagine the effect would be that gil would become near the same price on most servers over time, but until then, things will be fucked up. Maybe even afterwards, since it only takes a handful of RMT banks or rich players to put a dent into the stability of a server's economy.

Nope. Too many people would migrate to avoid their reputation. People that burned their bridges need to stay isolated. This game has enough problems as it is without assholes who can pick up and move to a new neighborhood when everyone recognizes what an asshole they are. I feel bad for people who honestly just want to team up with RL friends or whatever, but jackasses ruin it for everyone.
