This fedor news is pretty bad, although its not really sure what his role with M-1 will be as the owner/company that recently bought M-1 isn't even known yet.

This post was basically about the Fedor notification, so I just included this UFC as well.

Kimbo Slice just signed with M-1 too. Slice vs Fedor go? I'd watch it.

Barnett will sign with M1 now probably. Fedor vs Barnett would be awesome.

It makes sense. If Fedor was signed to UFC they'd have a virtual monopoly on all the really popular MMA guys. The other franchises needed to get him in order for them to be able to say "yeah sure, you have the belt for that franchise, but we have Fedor, you haven't beat the best." I'm sure that M-1 paid a ton of money to secure him signing.

I don't know what MMA contracts often go for, but Fedor was given $10,000,000 by M-1. As a reference, Liddell was given $500,000 for simply fighting last PPV.

Are you sure Kimbo signed with M-1? I heard that he signed somewhere, which is why the Tank-Slice match-up isn't going to happen, but I thought it was still undisclosed as to where Kimbo had signed.

And when Fedor was negotiating with the UFC, they offered him a $1,000,000/fight contract, not including PPV revenues, knock-out/submission bonuses, plus all the other sponsors.

Re: UFC® 77 HOSTILE TERRITORY -- And Fedor

Should update the title and add fucking Couture quit the UFC...........

It's still possible for Fedor vs Couture now. He'll just have to wait a bit.

    By Brian Knapp

At the height of its power and popularity, the Ultimate Fighting Championship today lost the man many recognize as the face of mixed martial arts. UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture announced his resignation from the Las Vegas-based promotion, leaving two contracted fights, his job as an on-air analyst and his heavyweight crown on the table.

In South Africa shooting scenes for his lead role in the upcoming feature film “The Scorpion King – Rise of the Akkadian,” Couture made the announcement official in a letter to UFC president Dana White. The UFC’s inability to land PRIDE heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko played a prominent role in the decision to walk away, according to Couture.

“I appreciate this opportunity the sport of MMA and the UFC has given me,” the UFC Hall-of-Famer said. “However, I’m tired of swimming upstream at this stage with the management of the UFC. It only makes sense at this point in my career to fight Fedor Emelianenko, and since he’s now signed with another organization, I feel like it’s time to resign and focus on my other endeavors.”

Wow... I can't believe Randy resigned. I guess at his age beating Fedor was the last thing he had to prove and being in the UFC wouldn't have allowed that anymore.

Wow, I'm not going to lie -- I 'd at Couture leaving UFC. However, I can see why he did it... it's a shame tho. Did I read that right and he's now going to focus on acting and leave fighting forever?

Re: UFC® 77 HOSTILE TERRITORY -- And Fedor

Randy is the man, but I can't see him making it big in the movie industry. His voice doesn't match the fighting talent at all, and I think that will translate pretty clearly on the big screen.

I'm disappointed but not at all surprised that UFC seems to have some issues behind the scenes. They're getting way too extravagant, and WWF-like in their intros. The pre-fight interviews always seem like forced feuds between contestants, coerced into saying stupid shit about the other guy. I like the much less hyped K-1 and Pride fighting, where the focus is more on the matches than on the glitz.

I think Coutre made a very intelligent choice. He's come back and been a major upset to UFC, and leaving while on top is a classy move. Good luck to him in whatever he chooses to do, he deserves it.

wow. I'm saddened randy is kinda a hero for me. He's probably going to devote time to his business now instead of acting.

btw Rich Franklin will get his title back.
