Parking Ticket ;_;

Im kinda new to L.A. so im figuring out all the new fun laws that dont really make sense to outsiders.
one of which is this: there was a sign saying hour parking between 8am-6pm, so i thought that after 6 you can park and not pay the meter. I was wrong. So ive got a nice 45 dollar ticket now and i want to know, is it like new york that if theres a mistake on the ticket is it thrown out? The mistake is the wrong month was entered, they put 8(august) instead of 3(march)

This is my understanding as well, and I've lived in L.A. for 3.5 years. I've never gotten a ticket for parking at a meter when what you describe is the only thing on the signpost.

Once i got a ticket with 22 mins left on the meter, but i had way of proving it. my options were between fighting off my ticket in court and forgoing my half daily salary of about $100 going to court. the choice was obvious, and it pissed me to no end that i couldn't go to court and have the ticket nulled without incurring additional costs. did i mention i fucking hate the parking authority and those meter maids?

did you park there before 6 or after? if it was before my guess would be you got an over zealous meter reader.

On that note my friend who lives in South Dakota was telling me about a meter incident that happened there. Someone thought it would be funny to go about 10 minutes ahead of the meter reader and mark the tires in the same fashion a meter person would, so that the vehicle appeared to have been there for a longer period of time. The guy got caught and is waiting for his court date.

Man, I just went through something simiar, I went up to Aurburn NY to visit my gf and they have this shit called "Alternate Side Parking" probably nothing new to some of you, but I'm from the backwoods VA where I've never heard of such shit. Anyway, apparently you have to park on a diff side of the street everyday, from Nov-Mar, but of course theres no signs stating this anywhere so you don't even know its a law until you get a ticket... at 3am...

I also loved how the ticket itself is a fucking self addressed envelope (no postage of course). I included a very nice letter with my check letting them know that taking advantange of the "ignorance of the law is no excuse" is a pretty crappy way to make (take) money from people.

Last time I parked at a meter, I only had 50 cents worth of change on me, so I put all of it into the meter but the meter didn't give me any time. I was pissed, but I ended up not getting ticketed, thank God.

I would contest the ticket, personally, if only to have to pay later. Here, unless the cop shows up, you have a high chance of at least getting it reduced. Since the date is wrong, you can use that to possibly throw it out or lower it.
Worth a try.

Have you seen the ticket? There's no reason to believe he's lying about the date being wrong. August is pretty far off from March, and it's hard to confuse summer and winter.

If there is any wrong information on the ticket then the ticket is not valid.

I got a parking ticket at 7:50 AM in a residential neighborhood for something that I can't fix atm (the front bolts are stripped on my bumper and there's no way i'm just caulking them shut to put my plate on it)... yeah.............

Can't you just put the tag in your back window in a clearly visible spot. I've seen people do that all the time with messed up bumpers, though I don't know if it's legal right.

I know the west hollywood tickets, and probably the greater los angeles tickets, are electronically printed, not hand-written.

Hard to "turn the 3 into an 8" in that situation - although I'd think it's also hard to fuck up the timestamp.
