besides the obvious answer, where are some good places to get news stories everyday?
I don't really know how to look or where. I want more than just political news though...like I want random pop culture news, technology etc
At the same time, I don't want a site with a bias or obvious tilt. That's rather hard anymore I know...

I don't see what's wrong with things like YahooNews or CNN.com though.

All reported news is going to have some bias. Look up both sides, read, make your own decision. You report, you deside.

2) Pick a site as mainstream or reputable as CNN.com but with the opposing bias.

Or just be intelligent and open-minded enough to read even a biased story and come to your own conclusions or do further research as necessary.

Anything not based out of the US will usually give you good news stories. Like someone said earlier, BBC is a great news source. English Al Jazeera is also a great news source. It gets a bad rap but its a great source for news.

Toss in some google news for a nice aggregate.

Daily Show + Colbert is a great one-two punch that really covers a lot and their bias is towards funny, not usually a political stance.

If you avoid commentary you should be able to get a lot of unbiased news out of anywhere. I mean CNN's shows where people discuss news is shit, but if you just want to get the news only look for the facts really and avoid them entirely. Though, I guess that isn't entirely safe from bias.

You try the radio? Surely there's something on the AM dial that keeps up to date on daily stories, and if all you're after is the basics it's a damn sight faster than using google/cnn for all your news. In LA we have at least two dedicated 24hr AM news stations.

If it's analysis you're after bias is largely inescapable.

Guardian Unlimited, BBC and Wikipedia news.

Guardian is fairly liberal, BBC tries not to be and wiki news tends to jump between bias or just remove opinions.

Humor aside, they're probably the most unbiased American source for political news.

You realize they're both very liberal, and that Colbert is an outright satire of right wing commentary... right?


Pay close attention to a Daily Show sometime, note how when he makes fun of republicans, it's generally serious, deep politically charged humor while the jokes towards dems tend to be much more superficial and just silly stuff.


The reality is that the audiences for both shows are extremely biased, neither would succeed near this extent without some level of it.


Don't get me wrong, I love them both, but don't kid yourself into thinking they're anything near unbiased.


They're also really only a so-so news source, as they're a day late on a lot of things and it's not like they have time to cover anywhere near all of the day's important news.
