FFXI connection problems in South Korea

I live in Seoul, South Korea. Yesterday I had FFXI on in the background while watching a movie and I suddenly d/c'ed and crashed. Since then I have been unable to connect to POL. My computer tries to connect to POL for about 30 seconds and errors out each time at the checking playonline viewer version stage. I get the same POL-1160 error everytime.

I've tried resetting my router and also disconnecting the router and connecting straight to the cable. Nothing seems to be making any difference. I tried connecting to one of the many wireless connections in my building on my girlfriend's laptop and managed to get connected on one of those after a few attempts.

Anyone else in the area experiencing similar problems? I assume that the issue is either on my service provider's side or on SE's. I don't know if IP tunneling or something could get around my problem. Any help would be much appreciated.

I live in Seoul, South Korea too and I have the same problem as well. Soon, I will contact my ISP to see if they blocked any ports, but if it's SE we'll have to wait it out.

Turns out its SE's fault according to my ISP; time to play the waiting game.

I'm glad to hear you talked to your ISP. My girlfriend and I are both foreigners and we're not very fluent in Korean. It would have likely been difficult for us to get our point across to any tech people at our ISP.

Thanks for your help. I guess we'll wait it out it too. Hopefully we'll all be back online soon.

I talked to SE who insists that its not their problem but my ISP's. I use KT Telecom, so I contacted them who says that they didn't close the ports, and are checking with their main headquarters.

I tried a proxy but was unable to connect, I'm not sure if I should be yelling at my ISP or SE, so I guess I'm out of luck.

More often than not (not just in that area) it's SE

We had a big issue with Comcast a few months ago over here in the states, was out for at least 3 or 4 hours.

    I'd wait it out.

It's been more like four full days now. I'd hate to keep waiting it out just hoping it resolves.
