It's the only type of card I have.
It's the only type of card I have.
If your card is a Visa or Mastercard check card/debit card (aka has a nice Visa or Mastercard logo on it) you can use it. In fact, that's what I used for a couple of years![]()
Damn, I don't think I can use mine. :I It's just a WaMu ATM card...
Buy a temporary Visa/MasterCard at any supermarket or sizeable drug store. Make sure it's for the exact amount you'll need (e.g., if you won't have any mules, it'll be $12.99). That should work fine.
Please note, most bank cards are 'debit' cards. They just can't be utilized on the Visa/MC network. That's what that debit button on the pay-at-the-pump gas station is for, so it can go across the Interbanc network instead of Visa/MC.
If your card doesn't have a Visa/MC logo on it, check w/ your bank specifically on that subject; just stating you want a debit card doesn't always cut it.
If your bank doesn't offer one, you'll have to go with a reloadable/prepaid card; both Visa and MC have offerings of the sort. You'll just have to make sure you drop next month's payment onto the card at least a week ahead of time, they tend not to reflect balance changes very quickly.
I don't have the logos on my card.
Omniyoji has it exactly correct.
True. I use 'debit' too loosely. When I was with US Bank they considered it a 'debit' card if it was usable on the Visa/MC network. They referred to the earlier cards as just ATM cards. So I typically just defer to that terminology.
Regardless, at WAMU it should be pretty easy to get an upgraded card.
edit - Do you have a checking account or a savings account with them?
If it's just a savings account, they usually just issue a normal ATM card without credit card usage.
It looks like even their free basic checking account comes with a "Free Gold Debit MasterCard® with rewards" so if you don't have a checking account then look into opening one up. If you have a checking account and just a basic card, then call them or go to a branch.
