So i got it a few days early and i have to say it really changes the whole feel of everything. Anyone else in the preview? And i really hope netflix gets a better HD selection because as it stands it sucks lol

I just got in as well - everyone that 'successfully' filled out the survey thing from majornelson.com got it.
I'm kinda torn on it. I absolutely despise my avatar, and wish I could remove him from sight completely. I also hate that my awesome themes have been rendered almost useless.
I do, however, like how smooth everyone seems to run now. I want to test out the game installation, but I only have a 20GB hard drive. Even though it's a rip off, I'm seriously considering picking up the 120GB tomorrow when I get Left 4 Dead.
I installed GTA4 and its a pretty big difference in speed and textures popping in. I only have a 20 gig too though so it'll be 1 at a time until i upgrade i guess lol
meh. too many adds. avatars << miis. there was a list leaked of a possible update some months ago, id have much rather had the things on it than this. cant agrue with the netflix, i mean they dont even have on site hd atm. its better than it was (mostly). sad thing is i think it will be better than home at this pointo well group chats all that really matters.

Question: if you can install a game onto your HDD, what is stopping someone (read: me) from going to their local Blockbuster, renting 5 of their favorite games, and transferring them to the hard drive? If there is some disc-recognition system, doesn't that completely defeat the purpose of hard drive installations?
You have to have the actual disc to play the games as far as I know, but im sure pirate will find a way around this, but then again, it works the same way the PS3's HD does so shouldnt really be a problem me thinks.
So the disc has to be in the system? Why wouldn't you just play off the disc then?
It's to cut down system sound and drive wear and tear mostly and the loading times are quicker with it instaled on the HD.
Bleh, stupid. =P Systems shouldn't have to download games in order to prevent their disc drives from being used...
I don't want to go too off-topic, though. I'm looking forward to NXE when it comes out either way.
I agree, im happy about reducing the sound, fucking 360 sounds like a mack truck and the load times is good too.
Yeah, I caved and picked up the 120gig with my Left 4 Dead. Transferring content as I type this....but it has another hour and 9 mins to go.
The fact that it increases game performance, reduces load time, and prevents more wear on the 360 makes it instant win. Hopefully more games in the future will be designed to make better use of this feature (though not make it a requirement), so it'll work even better.
I need to get a bigger HD but really cant see paying 100 bucks for it.
Took me a little under 10 mins to install Fallout 3, and a little over that to install Gears 2.
Playing Fallout 3 now...seems to run about the same, but of course load times are a lot quicker. It's also nice that the 360 is extremely quiet while playing now, too.
Is it the greatest revolution since colored TV????
what 360 games had intolerable in-game load times? The only loads I found objectionable were the startup loads, like GTA4. Does the new install feature shorten that wait, as well?
Yes, it does, though I haven't tried GTAIV yet myself. I don't intend on playing it again anytime soon. Also, here are a couple of articles that have tested the NXE experience installs, vs games running purely from the disc:
New Xbox Experience: DVD vs. Hard Disk Face-Off Article - Page 1 // Xbox 360 /// Eurogamer - Games Reviews, News and More
So how much time are you saving? - Xbox 360 NXE Hard Drive Install Chart
It shortens the startup for gta4 as well as less pop up n all that goodness
It's actually pretty cool if it doesn't use your disc drive.... if anything, the drive won't crap out as fast as it usually does.Good thing I have a 60gig HDD now, otherwise it would've been pretty pointless trying to install games with 7-8 free gigs... (thanks to all the gh/rb dlc >.>)
