Smoking Pot in Public?

Here in MA, the law on possession of pot (under one ounce) changed so it is no longer a arrestable offense and is instead a $100 citation.

This law came into effect yesterday, and thus due to a poorly written law we had alot of people lighting up a joint in public. Parks with kids around, at Bus Stops etc...

I'm wondering (more towards the non-smokers) how would you feel, or what would you do if someone decided to simply light up and smoke a joint right next to you out in public?

I dont consider pot to be a drug anymore (coming from a non-smoker), so i would treat it like i would a cig-smoker.

It gets confiscated, and sent to the state drug lab. The individual gets $100 fine, and sent on his way.

People are pretty dumb when it comes to this, people are still getting arrested over this stuff over their own stupidity.

I know of 2 people who were arrested for giving false names to a officer, when the officer was trying to write up the citation.

Another, decided to tell a officer to go fuck himself when said officer told him to hand over the joint.

Smoking pot in the park is in bad taste, the same way smoking a cigarette or drinking a beer would be. If I was down on the beach, or at a concert, I wouldn't think twice about it. Its all about having respect for your fellow man.

Disagree that it should be treated exactly like alcohol, though I do agree that people definitely should not operate vehicles, machinery, et cetera, while they're under the influence.

I live in BC and most people here (myself included) don't really care if you smoke in public and just treat it as if it were a cigarette.
