What should I DL on Xbox Live before I cancel my account?

Any cool stuff? Any free stuff?

The main thing I'm curious about is the Oblivion expansions - 'twas a fun game, and wouldn't mind to get a new plot line since I blew through the main quest.

The only other games I've got for it are the three Tomb Raider games and Halo.

What would you be able to download on XBL now that you can't later? Practically everything is available for download on free Silver accounts as well. If you can actually find anything noteworthy that requires Gold and is free, just get that.

I'm pretty sure Shivering Isles requires you to be logged into Xbox Live to use the content, which is really dumb.

After that the longest amount of content is probably Knights of the Nine, which also gives you a fair amount of gear. Mehrune's Razor adds an additional dungeon, but the reward isnt that great.

Aside from that the other DLCs don't add more than 15-30 mins of content each. I played as a magic type character so I got LOADS of use out of the Mage's Tower, the other den-type ones are all mildly useful as well.

Before cancelling XBL I'd go and download every free DLC for games that you even think you might some day buy. Infinite Undiscovery, Last Remnant, etc, if you think you might play something like those go download the free DLC cuz they make a huge difference.

You can download all the shit for free with a silver account too. The only difference a Gold account has on your downloads is you get access to demos a week earlier than Silver accounts. You can still buy Microsoft Points and download expansions, arcade games, demos, etc etc on a silver account.

So I don't need a paid Xbox Live account to play Shivering Isles or Knights of the Nine?

Really, the only thing I'll be missing out is the new Tomb Raider expansions and Halo online play?

If the Tomb Raider expansion is DLC on the Marketplace you'll be able to get that too. All you're missing out on is the ability to play online. You'll also have to wait a week to be able to download demos (and possibly other content, but demos is the only one I've heard about). You'll still need to sign into the account you paid and downloaded the expansion with, but you don't have to have a paid account.

The only thing that Xbox Live gold accounts really offer you are online play (or anything directly related to it) and sometimes game demos, though they're usually released for silver later.

You'll still be able to buy arcade games and expansion DLC with a Silver account, but it will cost microsoft points, same as normal. You'll still have a friends list and be able to send messages, voice chats, etc. It's not that big of a loss if you aren't playing games online, really.

Just a side note: You can't do XBox Parties either without gold which have been great fun for me and some friends. It's like Xbox's version of ventrilo/team speak and you don't need to be playing the same game as your friends.
