At the following time, we will be performing FINAL FANTASY XI maintenance on all worlds. During this period, FINAL FANTASY XI will be unavailable.

Maintenance operations will delete any reservations for Pankration matches. Players who are scheduled to participate in Pankration matches, those who will enter Assault, Salvage or Einherjar areas, or those who will participate in Dynamis or Limbus at the time of the maintenance, we ask that you please wait until maintenance is complete before engaging in these activities. Please note that we cannot replace items that are lost during the maintenance process.

Don't say "like always" this is the first time in AWHILE we had an emergency maint after a major update. Before it was just certain zones that needed to be taken down for 5 minutes.

Actually OP is spot on. Every version update since they started these things has had emergency maintenance following it within 24-48 hours.

The last version update is the only one I can remember that went through without shutting something down within a day or two afterward.

The one before that, in the very least, the Ranged attack delay had to be ninja'd.

Hey guess what. This happens in almost every MMO when they release a major update. I guess we could have them test everything with a very fine tooth comb and get updates once every 3 years if that would help with the bitching?

Oh Emergency maintenance, the horror. Maybe next update SE just won't fix the known issues for weeks because so many people don't like the horrid emergency maintenance, since it's so unbearable to take a couple of hours break from FFXI.

You kids need to shut the fuck up. Back in the Days of CoP there were Emergency maintenance's every day for a week after an update. One time there was a week full of emergency maintenance's that lasted 4+ hours each.

I look forward to the inevitable emergency maintenances, if only because it helps ease the paranoia about the unannounced nerfs (pup, sch, bst in this case, but many other instances in the past). Plus, as was mentioned above, it's better to spend a couple days after a major patch to fix this stuff rather than have it put off for a month (or more) until the next minor/major version update.

Of course, as a programmer I have to wonder how such things even got changed in the first place...
