    "Tales of" series.

Didn't see a Tales thread, and if there is one, it's probably super old and I don't want to necro it!

    SO!

What's your favorite Tales game? What's your least favorite? etc etc.

Tales of the Abyss takes the cake for me. Loved it. Guy and Jade are my favorite characters

Also, currently playing the Tales of Destiny: Director's Cut for PS2 (japanese onry >_<). Using a wiki translation guide to play it.

Also, here are my favorite battle themes :O

YouTube - Tales of the Abyss music - Arrow was shot

YouTube - Tales of the Abyss music - Everlasting Fight

YouTube - Tales of Destiny music - Surprise Attack (PS2)

YouTube - Tales of Destiny 2/Remake music - Coup de Grbce

YouTube - Tales of Destiny 2 - Theme of Battle (I've never played Tales of Destiny 2 but the music is awesome anyway, and this battle theme sounds like the boat theme from Golden Sun XD and yes I know the composer for both games is Motoi Sakuraba)

    Yes, I am a Tales fanboy ~_~

never played Abyss, it's really that good eh?

I think Destiny had the best dialogue, but Eternia had my favorite battle system, while Symphonia's graphics were great and it was pretty polished overall. I liked Phantasia too, but I haven't found a really good translation.

I guess overall my favorite is Destiny, because I played it when I was at a younger more impressionable age, it had fantastic characters, and the extras like the Tower of Druaga were really fun.

Yes, Abyss is damn good (IMO). Although most people can't stand the main character, the other characters more than make up for it. And I personally like the main character (especially in the beginning, he looks cooler and is funnier). He's a sheltered, spoiled, noble asshole in the beginning of the game XD

Oh, have you tried Absolute Zero's translation of Phantasia(PS1)? I think it's pretty good. I haven't finished it and I don't have it anymore, though. The GBA localization was crap.

Ahaha, I knew someone would come along with that.

You like Natalia? Most people seem to hate her. I think she's ok, but I prefer Tear as my healer.

    I mainly play Guy though.

Two healers is better than one. Playing as Natalia can be really broken, but I just prefer playing as Guy.

I have not, didn't even know it was translated. considering the extras that could be pretty good. I just never really cared for Dejap's version, it wasn't bad but I think they could've used someone with a little more skill when it comes to polishing the dialogue, giving the characters more of their own personality, etc. all the characters just felt flat, which was probably the original script's fault but that just means you have to pull a WD on it.

the GBA version makes me sad, haven't played it but I've heard all about it. such a shame when it could've been an incredible title.

    Lol.

I ordered Vesperia earlier, finally comes out in Europe tomorrow. Other than that I've only played through Eternia and Radiant Mythology 2 from start to finish, though I've played a fair bit of Phantasia and put a little bit of time into Hearts. RM2 has been my favourite so far despite not understanding a word of it, I really need to pick up some of the other 3d ones. Favourite song has got to be this:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-QI__wfhIA
Never got tired of that despite how many hours I put into RM2.

I hadn't played a Tales game since the first one that came out on PS1 in NA (Tales of Phantasia, I think?).

I want to play Vesperia when it comes out on PS3, so I picked up Tales of the Abyss to tide me over in the meantime, and to use as kind of as a primer. It was a pleasant surprise; the game is amazing. The voice-over work is fantastic and the dialog is great. I'm on my second play-through now, after spending about an extra 20 hours farming Grade on my first clear. I'm not too particularly fond of action-oriented RPG battle systems, but I'm really enjoying it in Abyss.

One thing that did bug me was how horribly fucking shitty the ending was.
    Spoiler: show
The whole game was Luke defining himself as a unique person rather than a replica, all the while developing a relationship with Tear, then all you get is what looks like an amalgamation of Luke and Asch at the end with some lame-ass "nice view of Hod" quip; not to mention absolutely nothing tying any ends up with the other characters.

Now that I think of it, there have been more than a few RPGs I've finished in recent months that have been good games with total crap endings.

Tales of Destiny is the PS1 Tales game that came out in the US. (also Tales of Eternia, but the US localization renamed it Destiny II)

And yes, I agree the ending to Abyss is kinda shitty. ~_~ I hate mystery endings.

No seriously, like Ryko suggested, come to spam and search for "Tales games" and you will have all of your questions answered.

Send him a PM, he seriously is a Tale aficionado and knows them inside and out. He literally breathes those games and has played every single one.

That is what Ryko was referring to, trust me he's the "Tales guy".

Definitely Symphonia without a doubt, although Phantasia was pretty much amazing.
