    Workout Music

I'm running out of music to listen to while working out. Does general have any good mixes or bands to listen to?

Yeah, I'm talking about DJ mixes, not OST or game music.

Darude radio on Pandora is great for running. Classic, cheesy Euro dance techno.

    FIFA 10 OST is phenomenal.

Also check Kaiser Chiefs and Metric out, the former will make a dead man run for a mile.

I never really understood "Workout Music"

Do you really need music to get you pumped to work out?

I just listen to whatever I feel like listening to, no different than normal

Music influences people in different ways. I can get pumped just listening to a fast-paced song or sober listening to a sad slow one.

My current hour (1 hour 3 min 15 seconds to be precise) biking mix. I listen to mostly rock with some electronica; (song, band):

    I get it - Chevelle
Ready to Fall - Rise Against
    Machinehead - Bush
Roulette Dares - The Mars Volta
    Dear Sergio - Catch 22
    Beautiful Disaster - 311
    Pennsylvania - The Bloodhound Gang
Prayer of the Refugee - Rise Against
Unh Tiss Unh Tiss - The Bloodhound Gang
Higher Ground - Red Hot Chili Peppers
    Creatures - 311
I Hope you Die - The Bloodhound Gang
    Keasbey Nights - Catch 22
Inertiatic ESP - The Mars Volta
    Supermassive Black Hole - Muse
Parallel Universe - Red Hot Chili Peppers

What I did basically was go through all my songs and picked out a couple with a good rhythm from each of the bands that caught my eye for whatever reason until I got an hours worth and then mixed them up.

I change it up every week or so, so if this thread catches on I'll post my list as I change it

No, I certainly agree with that. I just meant more towards...when I work out, I'm already pumped up. It's not "how does music pump you up" but rather "why would you need music to pump you up." You're supposed to be working out, best way to get pumped up for working out is by working out and getting the pumped up feeling from working out.

Though like you say, different people act differently.

It's not to pump me up, more to help pass time.

No, it's about getting a rhythm to workout to. It's not necessarily about being "pumped up" lol, but there have been studies showing the benefits:

    Music and Exercise

The research applications suggest that fitness teachers may benefit their students by playing music that in many ways depicts the intensity of the upcoming workout as students enter the workout room. In this way, the increases in respiration and moderate increases in heart rate from the music will better prepare the students for the forthcoming workout.

    . . .

It appears that sedative music may actually decrease a person's muscular fitness potential training ability. This is congruent with early pioneering research that shows muscle tension can be altered by choice of music: stimulating music increasing muscle tension with sedative music decreasing muscle tension (Sears, 1957)

    . . .

The use of music and auditory stimuli can be advocated to enhance a person's gait and gross motors skills, leading to increased stability and mobility of the clients.

    . . .

Music in many ways may improve a person's enjoyment and compliance to a fitness program, therefore ensuring long-term benefits, such as enhanced quality of life and reduction of risk to coronary heart disease and other causes of death.
There's a lot more, but that's enough to make the point that what you listen to does effect your workout in general. If what you normally listen to is all rhythmic and steady then I guess you were following the advice without even knowing it.

Right, that's same reason I listen to music while working out, so at which point it's not "workout music" but "any music"
