    Cleaning your monitor

Okay, I've a ACER AL1916W 22' LCD flat panel monitor. Over the past year or two it has accumulated some noticeable marks on it. Wiping it off with a cloth or anything doesn't get rid of it. They look like marks you might see on a coke bottle after you hold a flame near it.

Anyone have any idea what I could do to clean these off? They're started to bug me.

Pre-Moistened Eyeglass Wipes. You'll use a lot of them (because they'll dry out very fast from the monitor's heat) but they're fantastic for this kind of job. For the really messy parts and hard-to-reach parts (the edges of the screen) you may want to use cotton swabs & eyeglass cleaner instead.

** DO NOT use Windex-type cleaners. THEY WILL CHEMICALLY WARP OR MELT THE SCREEN.

Isopropyl alcohol and a lint free cloth does the job well.

I use a 10/90 mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water with a lint free cloth. Just make sure the water is distilled or boil the water, otherwise, it'll streak. Obviously, don't wipe your monitor with the boiling water, let it cool first.

Back when I was a big believer in the Monster brand name (I know, young and naive and all that jazz), I bought some Monster HDTV cleaner. I still use it now and it works great. Never had any streaks. Might be some generic equivalent that's cheaper and works just as well?

for matte screens: http://www.amazon.com/Falcon-88121-D.../dp/B00009ESKH. Just make sure you close the lid tight afterwards or they'll dry out.

I use a microfiber towel with plain room temperature water, steam distilled would be better.

I've also use eyeglass / lense cleaner solutions on the same towel for finger marks that are particularly stubborn. Spray some on the MF towel to moisten but don't go crazy and use so much that its wet rather than moist.

Let the monitor cool off after you turn it off, unscrew the cables and tilt it a bit so you get some reflections off wherever the marks are and wipe away.

I also use a microfiber with distilled water, its worked well for awhile, but I might look into those wipes linked on amazon. Kind of annoying to clean up microfiber.
