weird problem with my BR player only happens on "the gamer"

so second time renting this movie (the gamer), and second time running into this problem

pop the disc in, go thru the loading and update check, get to the content and all i can see is a 2x3 ish box. you can definetly see that the previews and menu is being loaded/played and the audio is coming thru with no issues but the picture is ONLY a 2x3 box.

not the whole picture, just whatever would appear in that 2x3 box if it was playing normally. never seen this problem and never had this problem with any other BR let alone any other media.

tried going thru the settings on the player, tried forcing an update nothing works. as i said this is second time with this rental, 2 different rental spots so 2 different discs.

anyone ever hear of this?

oh i have a toshiba BDX2000, i know loltoshiba, but i have a regza and they do the neato link thing etc.

its the first BR player in the line.
