    Monitor blacking out

Just recently my secondary monitor will power up w/ the computer regularly but then just turn off, well go black. If i turn it off and on again then it is fine, but today, it keeps going off. I just got it to work again and its been fine for a while now, but heh. Want to see what the problem is before it gets worse.

The green light for monitor on is still on when the screen goes black.

other than that, I'm clueless. Any hints?

Most of the time a screen go black, it's the cable (broken or poorly connected to the video card).

hmm which cable? The HDMI cable? I'm not connected directly to the video card (I don't think), but through my hdmi slot. I only got this monitor in november and I haven't had electricity for 2 of the months between then and now, so I don't rly think it can be dying already

If your monitor is blacking out, well, that sounds about right to me. If it turned white, that wouldn't be your style.

I'll only make these kinds of cheesy jokes for you, Cream.

To provide a serious answer, I first have to pose a question: you've implied that this monitor isn't directly connected to the graphics card. Do you know for sure whether it is or not? If it isn't, have you tried disconnecting the properly functioning monitor, and hooking this one up in its place to see if it works normally there?

It's connected to my laptop, not a desktop, which is why idk. I just plug it into the HDMI port. Whether that's directly tied to my graphics or not idk. As for the properly functioning monitor, it's a laptop, so yea, can't rly disconnect that.

You can try uninstalling the driver to your graphics card and reinstalling it.

Try to connect your monitor to another computer and see if it works, I'm assuming since your monitor is still detecting the connection that its your graphics card but it's better to check anyway.

This happened to me occasionally, I have both monitors plugged into my 1000w UPS. The second monitor occasionally goes blank for a moment every 4 hrs or so (usually just blinks) I haven't messed wit determining a solution since its not really a problem. I have a GTX 285 in SLI if it helps at all, I don't know what video card you're running. This happens to my girlfriends second monitor occasionally too, when it's plugged into her UPS.

I don't have another computer to connect the monitor to, unfortunately.

Just tried the driver thing, still having the same issue. Once I get it working, it stays on but when I shut down or restart, then it takes a long time to get the monitor to stay on

If it helps, when i change the refresh rate, it comes back on for a second but then fades back out again. Same as if I unplug/replug it or turn it off and back on.

I had this issue with my previous PC, I couldn't figure out the issue, I tried multiple monitors and none of them would go on I eventually took my PC out back and shot it up with the .22 and just went to build a new PC ...

To me it sounds like a dieing video card, or a fault in the cable connecting the monitor to the PC, if you have an old video card laying around for whatever reason, and it fits the slot, pop it in and see what happens.

What brand is the monitor? LG monitors are notorious for a short lifespan on account of sub-par capacitors on the PCB. If it's an LG monitor, you can check the capacitors and if that's the issue and you can use a soldering iron without permanently scarring yourself, it's cheap and fairly easy to fix.

If you've ruled out its not the videocard, and that the monitor in question is the culprit.

My bets are on fat/dead caps. This commonly happens a lot more than you think with LCD's. Ranging from bottom-of-the-barrel brands up to Samsung.

Can easily be repaired if you know what you're doing. Took me an hour, 6 bucks of parts from online shipped free, a soldering iron, and a beer. (Preferably Rolling Rock).

As I mentioned above, 99.9% of the time if you've came to a dead-end its the LCD. And its turning on via switch but still staying black (or even turning on for a moment, then turning off immediately after). Then its dead caps.

edit: Also fyi, the caps in question are obviously affected on the inverter board. Which in return, can be dangerous. So take care :3

Ok, so I-Inc called me today. They said they don't have the parts to repair my monitor and offered me another model instead (being brand new vs repairing my old model).

I'm not good w/ laptop specs, so I told the lady I'd get back with her within a day.

Am I looking at an upgrade/downgrade/sidegrade/doesn't matter practically the same thing.

wasn't even aware this brand existed.

I'm not good with contrast stuff but looks like sidegrade / slight downgrade.
