All Worlds Maintenance (Jun. 21)

At the following time, we will be performing maintenance on all FINAL FANTASY XI worlds to accompany the version update and the implementation of the new battle area add-on "Vision of Abyssea." During this period, FINAL FANTASY XI will be unavailable.

Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

* This maintenance will be accompanied by a version update. After maintenance is complete, the update will automatically begin after you press the "Play" button. After that, please follow the instructions on the screen.

* The World Transfer Service will be unavailable starting 30 minutes before the maintenance. Please wait until after the maintenance is completed before attempting to use this service.

* You may receive errors such as "POL-1160" or "POL-0010" during the download process due to heavy server traffic. If you are unable to access the update, we ask that you please wait a while and then try again.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding in making this a smooth version update.

* The new battle area add-on "Vision of Abyssea" will be become playable after the version update. For those who have already purchased the new battle area add-on, please confirm whether the title of the new battle area add-on is present on the FINAL FANTASY XI title screen after the version update is complete.

* For the update details, please refer to "Topics" on the official PlayOnline.com web site or PlayOnline Viewer which will be available on Tuesday, Jun. 22, 2010.

The first half if not the majority of the new contents update was a little over a week ago. Hopefully we can expect this update to go a little smoother. But yea SE is known for their extended updates and multiple emergency patches following them.

I'd assume it goes something like this:
1) Backup the character files so that you can restore them in case something goes horribly wrong.
2) Run a script to push the update.
3) Have someone log on each server and do a quick check to make sure that everything is running as expected.

With as many servers as they have, even with something as simple as that, it can take quite a while. You'd be surprised what can go wrong sometimes. Actually, you shouldn't considering the last major glitch involved somehow getting a t4 vnm trigger by using a Portafurnance.

1st update i've been looking forward to in years.... All the jobs i want to lvl are lvled, nice to know i can make them stronger now! Also no way it is going to be 3 hours.... even if thats what SE thinks they need, calling 7 at least.
