New laptop acting funny

So I recently purchased a Asus G73 laptop from Best Buy, and earlier today when I turned it on my desktop background had been restored to the default, and pretty much any change I made to the computer was back to the original settings. Anything I had saved was deleted. Also, an unusual white box appeared in the center of the screen. It only appears to be there when I'm on the desktop. Does anyone have any idea what could be going on? Here's a picture of the box:

Just did. Nothing came up. I can't right click on the box either.

if you have nothing of importance on the machine, I would just reformat if you have the dvd's and start fresh.

The mysterious box has now disappeared, and the machine seems to be fine. Just to be safe, I ran another virus scan - still nothing. I'll probably do as you suggested and reformat soon.
