New Router

Looking for a new router that has a pretty good for media/gaming purposes. My current $40 Netgear router that i bought like 4 years ago isnt cutting it anymore. From being semi poor and not wanting to buy cable/satellite. Iv started streaming download movies from my pc > my PS3 to the TV in the living room. But the Movies stutter and completely loose signal. Despite being 100% connection. I know i could fix this with a long ass ethernet cord but i have a 2 year old toddler running around. She pulls on that cord any my ps3 goes tumbles to the floor. Everyones gonna have a bad day. But i digress.

Any help will be appreciated. Looking for the best deal i can find and open to any suggestions, im black and poor remember? Budget is around 100, but would love to spend hella less than that.

The netgear router your looking at purchasing, is complete trash.

I bought one a few months ago, and had it exchanged 3 times for just not working in general. I ended up switching to a linksys router (E2000), and have had no problems with it

Networking tip:

D-Link, Netgear, & Belkin only make good switches.

i've had literally 0 downtime (and i constantly have data moving with 2 laptops, a server, and 3 workstations on at most times on my network; one of the workstations is dedicated to torrents/media serving) since getting this router in january:

since day 1 i've had both wifi channels & a gigabit network running perfectly. i'm surprised to see how many shitty reviews it has on there (i didn't buy from newegg), but i also immediately put dd-wrt on it, and currently using v24-sp2 (04/23/10) mega. that could be the reason i've such good luck with it, but based on personal experience i'd stand behind this model 100% if you want to spend the money.

um i dont think ill be doing anything fancy. What are the advantages of using dd-wrt/tomato? For an average user

Not a sarcastic suggestion. Cheaper than purchasing a new router, doesn't require advanced networking knowledge, and you won't have wireless disconnection problems ever again. If you don't want that specific kit, find another one that suits you (e.g., wire concealers that run along the floor, or something you can put under a rug).
