    Holy shit

Is there any realistic reason to unban other then to push packs for Masters 25?

Based on the fact they mentioned Master 25 increasing the supply, no. lol

I'll be surprised if it doesn't get put back on the ban list by the end of the year. Bloodbraid has potential to be safe though.

Well that's one way to destroy a format. Jeez what the hell are they thinking.

they're really committed to continually blowing up modern in one fashion or another, lol

I don't actually think Jace is going change the format that much. It's not really good against the linear combo decks and decks like Grixis Shadow and humans because it's too slow. The decks it is really good against, the midrange grindy decks were already kind of falling off because they all get crushed by tron. So really all it does is help control a bit against decks that were already in decline. On the other hand it doesn't actually do anything they thought it would do by unbanning it so it's clearly done to just sell M25 packs.

Bloodbraid could honestly majorly fuck things up. You can't do the full on degenerate Cascade bullshit you see in Legacy, but there's still some nasty options available.

Regardless of whether or not the unbans will do anything, it still seems like a weird decision to do this since modern was in a really good spot. Unbanning Jace and saying in the actual article "don't worry guys, you can get Jace in the new masters set!" just seems like a cash grab.

While I definitely feel the unban was unnecessary, to be fair, if they had done it and weren't reprinting Jace asap, people would've bitched about him being unaffordable.

They threw Jace on the face of M25. It was a move to help sales, esp. considering how shitty the last handful of sets have been. That said, bring it on. I'm all about it.

It was definitely to help sales, but what I'm saying is maybe it wasn't JUST that. I mean, they must've thought about how fucking awful the PR is gonna be if they end up having to ban Jace again in the next 12 months.

Well, they absolutely aren't going to ban him in the next 12 months, regardless of how bad he warps the format. When you make a decision like this and throw make it a chase card in an Anniversary set (that costs way too much per pack), you have to also commit to not banning him, regardless, for a significant amount of time. Also, Bloodbraid never comes back without Jace, so both would have to go.

Personally, I don't think he will do damage to the format, at all. If you tap out on 4 at Sorcery speed against a lot of decks, you're just dead on the spot. If you hold him in your hand until turn 7-9 against a lot of decks, you're already dead. He will be best in a creature/mid-range deck; I'm going to try him in UW control since I have the entire deck Japanese+Foiled, but I think his best control shell will be UB with Lillianas and other hand disruption. Off the top of my head, something like:

    4 IOK
    4 Thoughtseize
    4 Fatal Push
    4 Serum Visions
    Some # of Damnation
    Some # of Cryptic
Some # of cheap counters (Logic Knot / Mana Leak / etc) - (Not even sure if these are needed)

    4 Snapcaster
    Some # of Tasigur

    4 Jace
    3 LotV
    2 Other 3 drop Lili

    4 Spreading Seas
    2 Search for Azcanta

    4 Creeping Tar Pit
    4 Field of Ruin

I had no idea there was a new magic thread! Makes sense though, the other one was getting very big.
