    Dual Graphics Card Question

Currently I have an HD Radeon 5770. I'm considering upgrading to a GTX480, since I like Nvidia better but decided to give Radeon a shot. My question is can I keep my 5770 in my case and hook the monitor I don't play FFXIV on up to that, and hook the monitor I do play XIV on up to the 480 and take some of the load off of the 480?

The goal is to eventually SLI 2 480s, but I can't afford that quite yet.

First off, WTF English. As far as I have seen, you cannot tell FFXIV which video card to use as the main display device. So I assume you cannot do what you are "asking".

You can't, the only thing that is doable is 2 different model Nvidia card and have one handle the Physics calculations, but even then, there is not much performance gains.

Yes my grammar was bad, good job. You can however hook the monitor FFXIV is running on into whichever card you want. If there is no possibility for gain I'll just sell my 5770 and put it into savings for a second 480.

you can only use two of the same make of card unless you plan on using some SLI/Crossfire Driver Hybrid (they do exist), i would sell the 5770 and use the loot saved towards the 480. You can have 3x monitors on a 480 so you dont need a 2nd one to hook another up, I run a 480 and i can have ffxiv and sc2 running on 2 monitors without hicup (yeah i did it, watched a replay) ^^b. Enjoy the gtx480 though!

You can connect 3 monitors to a 480, but only 2 can be in use at one time. A single 480 can not run a 3 monitor setup. If you want a 3 monitor setup, you need a 2nd card. The 580's are out, and supposedly run a little cooler and quieter, so get that instead of a 480.

Unless you are running on a 30inch 2,560 x 1,600 monitor, you really have no need or use for 2x 480's.
