    DLP TV Imagine problem

Own a 73 inch Mitusbishi DLP. Last week, on the left side of the screen, a couple black/white dots started to appear. Some of the white dots would actually flicker in and out.

Now, the cluster has spread throughout the whole left side of my screen, and is creeping across the screen almost daily. What could be causing this all of a sudden, and what do I need to do about it? (I don't trust random google answers.)

I just replaced the lamp about 3 months ago, so looking to really not have to put too much money into it again.

i had this problem with my DLP Samsung, luckily mine was still under warranty. If its BOTH black and white dots, than most likely its a mirror issue, or worst case scenario, the engine, but that's a bit more rare. you should contact a technician/customer service if you're still under warranty and have it analyzed. it's only going to get worse. mine ended up eventually covering a 1/2 of my screen

Yeah, mine just dropped out of warranty right before I had to replace a lamp, so that's out of the question. Would replacing the mirror mechanism be something someone could do with fairly little knowledge of DLPs? The reason I ask is, there are absolutely no tv repair people in my area who will work on this tv, for some reason, except for like...Sears. And fuck paying 160 bucks just for someone to come just to tell you whats wrong with it.

to be honest, i never made an attempt, but that's just because i have a habit of being a clutz when it comes to things like this, and since i had it under warranty anyways, why take the risk? they just came by and picked it up and i got it back in about a week. you can still get it fixed by 3rd party TV repair companies you can find online, but rates on those things are absolute ass gl, with whatever you do, man

As previously stated, it is most likely a mirror issue. Anything that has to do with something you could describe as 'dead pixels' with a DLP is most likely the engine itself or the positioning assembly failing. I'd honestly say since they were 'flickering' that it is probably the engine, not the mirrors themselves - sounds like it doesn't know how to process the signal anymore. Either it glitched out in the engine, or their was a failure with the mirror positioning assembly. How long have you had it total? I had my Toshiba DLP for 5 years before the mirror engine started failing in it.

If it is the engine, the price of replacement is probably worth warranting looking for a new TV. It isn't a process I would wish to attempt.

Just a bit over 3 years. Long enough for the warranty to be inactive, of course. And yeah, with the actual flickering instead of a solid dark/light spots, I was worried it was going to be the whole engine, like you mentioned. That's terrible news indeed, but I appreciate the help.
