Survey: Which Game Client Do You Use? (08/31/2011)

Starting today, we will be conducting a survey on the game client players use to play FINAL FANTASY XI.

How to answer the survey:
After you login to PlayOnline and select FINAL FANTASY XI under "Games", a survey will be displayed. Please place a check mark on the client you use to play FINAL FANTASY XI. (If you use multiple clients to play, please select all that are applicable.)

* This survey will be conducted on all PlayOnline accounts. Once the survey is answered, it will no longer be displayed.

Maybe SE is planning to drop PS2 support (finally)?

You know, after years of waiting for bug fixes and good content I finally did the decent thing and that is to just quit the game. Hoping SE will "fix" FFXI will only have you wait another 2 years and with epic bAWWing when you quit.

Do they not have a freaking tag in the software that just lets them KNOW if an account uses PS2/360/PC
I mean, the update file sizes for the platforms are often different, so there has to be something that lets the update server identify which you need.

Surveys are ways to show that you're listening to the community or simply trying to. This also gives people a chance to lie and not tick the PS2 option (as everyone should do just to be sure).
It's also possible that they can't see how many people play on each system.

Difference is they can work around it on a PC architecture, sure it's never going to get the rewrite it really needs but retarded things such as spell limits will be easily fixed. Everything's easier when you don't have to work around a 32mb RAM limit.

Memory is the main issue here and can be worked around on PC easily, but nothing they can do on PS2.

Unless the numbers show that PS2 is a substantial portion of the player base (which it will). No PC users are quitting SOLELY because the game is on PS2. Axing PS2 support doesn't seem worth it if they can't draw the same/similar numbers of other client new users to the game (or get people to switch over). Don't see it happening.

You know, I used to believe the "PS2 users are a substantial portion of the user base" defense, but fat-box PS2s haven't been made in years and weren't *that* durable. I burned through three before switching to PC, with each one getting harder to find than the last.

That was a couple years ago when I heard that so maybe those PS2s have lived their life span as well. I recently purchased a PS2 on this forum last year because my fat-boy PS2 gave out years ago right after ToAU was released. So I see what you mean about their durability. Although they are discontinued, is it possible that they are more readily available in Japan in terms of more of them in better shape to sell/resell at Gamestop-like stores over there?

Could be, I just remember spending about a week dicking around with different solutions trying to get the PS2 to read the ToAU and then WotG disks.

My PS2 is still functional, but I haven't used it for FFXI in over a year. I haven't used it at all actually, since it can't ready discs anymore ^^; I did use my PS3 for a while until I got another laptop to run my mule account on, but I didn't really play on it, just used for bazaaring.

I'd be happy if there were some updates that only went to PC users, like graphics or (shock) plugins. I've heard of games that had an "HQ" client for higher end machines and a "LQ" client for low end machines, but those people could still play on the same servers.

My fat PS2 still works, I used it occasionally to get around 3dSecure. Can still play the game on it if I patched it, but it hasn't come to that yet. Unless it's a launch model these things are durable as hell(although mine doesnt play PS1 games anymore). Interesting to see where this survey leads though.

I'm sure I will sound like an ass to those who play on ps2....but I would highly encourage everyone who plays on PC and actually wants the option for graphics upgrades, new zones, etc to vote "PC" and try to skew the numbers the best we can.
