Day 1.
This is what may make me buy a Wii U.
GOD DAMN YOU CAPCOM
don't break my heart capcom!
I've never played a Monster Hunter game, but everyone raves over them. What kind of games are they?
You can pick up MH Tri on Wii for $15 or $20 now days.

Ok, if you've played PSO/PSU, then you're familiar with MH's quest system, 1-4 man squad based missions.
No levels or classes. The closest is ranged armor and melee armor, but besides that how you play is based on your weapon, and you can always go with a new weapon (like FFXI jobs). You "level up" solely by crafting improved armor and weapons. You get the materials for that by... hunting monsters. The drops you get have a chance table though, so the grind is getting the drop you want (think homam/nashira).
For combat, it's mostly big (ridiculously big, see links) slow weapons, a few fast ones, and a few ranged ones. The monsters use 3D hitboxes and telegraphed attack patterns. They have destructible bodyparts. There are minor minions about, but the whole game is basically boss battles.

The game values are tuned so that combat is generally pretty tense and exciting. I'm not a controller chucker, shouter, or one to react when I play games, but MH can get me swearing a bit under my breath, which is an achievement.
I recc you check out the wikia too

I'm happy but sad.
I'd love to see a successful MH in the States so I hope they try.
Also yeah, it's usually best to play on your own anyway til you get good gear for your lvl, play online to unlock harder tiers, solo harder tiers offline to get appropriate gear, etc.
Also, I don't care what new weapons they release, Great Sword 4 lyfe. They just need to change it so you can aim GS charged moves again, I don't know why they'd take that out.
As much as I love MH, gonna pass on this one too.
Sony is losing all hope for MH. There is MH 3RD HD port on ps3, but I believe it uses adhoc style online or something.
That's so it can be played with PSP players who have the original non-HD version of Portable 3rd.
It came out last year. Most of us thought it was why Capcom didn't localize Portable 3rd, they'd only do 3rd HD for the PS3.
AND THEY STILL HAVEN'T DONE ANYTHING REGARDING WESTERN RELEASE.
