CPU question

I've been looking at two CPU's today, an Intel that a friend showed me and an AMD that I found. Both are dual-core, but I'm not sure which of them I would be better off with. I did a search on the forums and found a CPU comparison link to another website but it didn't show either of these on the charts.

Intel Dual-Core E2160 Allendale 1.8GHz 1MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Brisbane 2.3GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2 Processor

These are both pretty much the top of my price range at the moment, and they both have motherboard combo deals, so that's not a problem really. It seems like the AMD would be faster, but I've been seeing a lot of disputes over it, and my friend keeps telling me that Intel is better.

Well, I couldn't find anything that would exactly compare those two but this review of the E2160 seemed relevent enough.

Granted they aren't comparing it to the 4400+(instead the 3800/3600+). It seems the E2160 did better on most of the benchmarks but then turned around and lost to even the 3800+ in gaming situations. Either way the E2160 lost to the E4300.

This one shows the 4400+ doing a decent job against the E4300 and beating it on occassion as well.

From those it would seem that pure gaming wise the AMD chip will best the intel. The 1mb cache size on the intel hurts it in games. But when it comes to other applications like microsoft office the intel would most likely be the better choice. Or if you aren't afraid to overclock it a bit the Intel looks to be the better choice again. Depends on what is more important to you as far as processing situations.

There's a core 2 duo E4300 on newegg for $117 if you can manage to swing the extra 20 bucks and want to have a better all around stock setting psu.
