    Monks and Staves

In light of the two-handed weapon adjustment patch, I was wondering how feasible it is for a MNK to use a good staff now. I imagine that hand-to-hand is still better, but are staves at least a somewhat less bad option? The idea of a MNK wielding a staff is somehow stylistically appealing to me, which is why I ask.

Try str gear and boosting to 999 and doing SATA Full Swing on Wyrms.

Spike flail is a tp move, and wyrm wont do it unless they gain tp. There is always a small risk involved, but it's possible to minimize it.

My guess would be less than the Chi Blasts would do with the same boosts. Plus no TP gain on the mob and you're able to use Penance. Or just go on your other job, like most people seem to do now >_>

Chi Blast on a Wyrm is retarded, gets resisted.

    - Chi Blast cannot miss or be resisted in any way, though Stoneskin will absorb it.

I have never fought a greater Wyrm though

go try it on Jorm and get back to us. Greater wyrms have -50% resistance to elemental/spirit dmg.

    Re: Monks and Staves

there's a difference between rolling a resist and a magic damage reduction. try a fully boosted chi on an ahriman and i think you'll find that it's lower than on an equal mob in the area. kirin does not posess any magic damage down traits, strangely, which is why chiing kirin was such a popular technique circa 2004. on a vaguely on topic note, i've always wondered what would happen if a mnk 2 hred with a power staff on. i've read that the str boost isn't that huge and degrades over time, but nobody's ever seemed to test if the procs stack. just me thinking out loud.

fSTR cap for a D31 staff would be 11 (I think), so adding über STR can take you up to D42 which is lower than a lot of other staves.

A friend expd MNK around lv29 some days ago, switched to a Staff and parsed much more then by fisting....
Is it possible Staff will be more valuble for dmg around lower levels nowdays? *sulk*

What food did he have? If he was missing a lot with fists and switched to Staff, the boost in acc from 1DEX=1Acc could have made the difference.

    Re: Monks and Staves

H2H is A+ for mnks while Staff is B, at lower lvl the difference is like 5-7? So it's believable that staff may be a better choice than H2H at lower lvls given your circumstances. At 75 though, it's 26 skill difference between H2H and Staff, I can't really see any situation where Staff would be a better choice than H2H where H2H is applicable. Then again my monk is under 50 and haven't touched it in years.
