    X's knife BC question

This thread is for 2 questions only.

#1 I have playerA who has the letter from Y (x's knife bc) and playerB who only has the letter from X (pre quest) Can playerA that has completely letter from X quest enter with playerB to help with the quest?

#2 When you enter the letter from Y battlefield does it take away everyone's letter or just that one player. Basically can PlayerB enter with PlayerA if playerB has completed Letter from X quest. Or do both players need the letter from Y and does it take both letters away?

    ^_^

So how exactly does a thf with 12% and a blm do this BC? Gravity lasts 2 sec, bind last 5 if not 2. Sleep doesn't work unless you use elemental seal. Any suggestions would be helpful

i do this BC almost every week, with a minimum of 4 BLMS, (more than 4 is overkills, and wastes letters if more ppl have them), and we've gotten 2 X's Knife, 1 Scyth, a bunch of crap synthesis materials, and a Divine Log once, and i think at least 3 times, we've gotten nothing at all.

I does it with RDM and RDM.

We both have to have two hours up, but relatively easy. :3 Usually RDM/BLMx2, but friend came RDM/NIN once on accident. Still a win, ahaha. Kite around big rock, they run funny, easy kite.

When it first came out tho, I did it with a normal party setup. Overall I've seen a buncha nothings, crap materials, 2 Knives, 3 Scythes, no Tridents. :3

    Re: X's knife BC question

we experimented with this last night. Me, a rusty old Thief as kiter, yes, stupid easy to kite; an my friend a career White Mage with an inheirited Blm that's mildly under geared. Her level of Blm expertise is nil at best, but she did pretty well.

My question for those that have actually attempted to duo this is, how exactly do you start? We had some minor issues with X that grew into major issues exponentially.

The live journal link was awesome and really opened the door to getting the knife. Nice to have a ray of hope once and a while, but some things were a little fuzzy in thier explaination, namingly the start.

It's suggested that they aggro pull the mobs, but doing so makes X immediatly cast UtsuNi, and in the same breath they suggest using AM II/Single target spells in general. Also gettign bind off is pretty tough, they dont' run fast per se, but they are pretty good at interupting spells, even one as quick as bind, which doesn't last as long as one would gather form reading the LJ post.

    So do you:
    1) Open with AM II, and at the last second of the cast have the kiter aggro?
    2) Kite mobs away and the Blm kite until they see X use a spell/stop to cast to get bind off?
    3) Then drop a -ga of some sort to drp her shadows?

The way the live journal reads is like the blm just nuked, bound, nuked, slept, nuked. Which I could see happening on Z and Y.... But X seems to have next to no "recast penalty" on UtsuNi, and just spams it.

The LJ post also makes getting hate back sound like a walk in the park, I had the others clear accross the map and they ran off to skillchain on the blm, there was nothing I could do to get em to turn around. As stated in the Live Journal, they Nuker typically uses this to thier advantage when they are skillchaining on the kiter, as they don't give up on thier target, however, the same goes for when thier target is the Blm... The LJ says that they just get hate back in about 30 seconds using bloody bolts, I personally have a hard time seeing this happening. Also at the point at which they want to do a skillchain, they appear to have "perfect pathing" suddenly and B-line to the target, and seem to even run a bit faster.

Those are my issues, it is still fun lol, I am enjoying figuring this out, but I am a little rusty, it just seems like it's not working as easily as stated. Can someone give me a play-by-play of thier experience? Or more importantly just give me a tip or two on how to get X dead? And how far back do you take the tracker you're nuking? I had the others clear on the opposite corner away from start, and she had X on the "lump" that overlooks their starting positions and they tore off after her anyways. I'd say it was over 50units as I didn not see her for a bit after crossing the threshold of the position at which the others turned around.

Kaeko isn't inexperienced or mildly undergeared; that could explain the difference in your Bind results.

You'll get the same result as an aggro pull by having your THF shoot X just before AM2 lands. Take advantage of Manafont preventing spell interruption, AM2 > Manafont > Thundaga III > Blizzaga III should drop X without taking too much damage, and leave you in a good position to kill Z without rest.

    Re: X's knife BC question

I used to do the xbow shot right before am2 hitting. Occasionally, all the mobs would ignore me even though I hit first, and all go for the blackmage. I found it to be much more reliable for myself to xbow shoot x, kite half a lap, then start on the mithras (infact, we kill the wyvern first now, since it can heal all the mithras, and is a general pain in the nutsack)

As for blackmages - if you aren't a career blackmage with a full enfeeble build and merits, your bind is going to suck and get resisted often.

K, they stated a couple times kinda assurign that if you werent' the 'best' suited blm you could still pull it off. I know nothign of Blm, does Manafont ensure a 100% cast or something?

So open with AM II, Last second pull X to aggro the others, kite off, Blm Mana fonts to save MP on having to use -ga III's 2x. Should kill X. Correct?

Thanks, will see how this works on Sunday.

Coincedentally that's the only thing she's got goign for her lol. She's got all the gear and I think 6/8 merits in Enfeeb for what it's worth. It Lands, its just really hard to get it off, and kinda doesn't last long. What's the time yours typically lasts?

How many BLM do you need to make kiting completely unneccesary?

    3 BLM....

    3x Thundaga III
    3x ES Sleepga II
    3x Blizzaga III

Would this be enough to kill them all or would you need a 4th?

The problem is that you need 3 Blm that will help you out once a week for an hour that have the prerequisite, and get nothing out of it. And the rabbit doesn't sleep.

It's not really that bad. Me and another BLM both have THF leveled and are interested in the knife. The 3rd BLM is my second account. Just need to know if 3 is enough or do we bring in a 4th "get nothing out of it" helper.

3 blm can do with with a rdm to bind/grav the rabbit/wyvern and kite them

    Re: X's knife BC question

Regarding the questions about duoing (the start of the duo)...

We have the THF open with Flee Boots then she just rushes in and aggros it all so she gets flee but saves the JA. I immediately run towards X and WAIT half a second. If you see X use something that is not Utsu, immediately cast an AM2. If you see X use Utsu, you have to first make sure the other mithras are going to seperate fast enough to use Ga3.

If you saw it use Utsu + you could not see them seperate fast enough, then all 5 mobs will still be on the kiter as you haven't really done anything yet. The best thing to do here is place enough trust in your kiter to hold 5 mobs for just a bit (you have PD). Stun or use another fast high hate spell on X to get its attention, move it to a corner (communicating to the THF not to kite around there), then I would ES Sleepga to set yourself up. From there it should be as the LJ suggests.

Regarding and Mithra Skillchain calling - after a lot more attempts after writing that LJ entry, I can tell you you're dead on about the LJ being misleading about peeling them off your BLM. It doesn't happen often but we have run into situations like you described where you just could not get it off your BLM. The way we handled it was a bit daring. All the Mithras want to do is get the SC off. Once they do get the SC off, they will revert back to normal hate mechanics. So I would intentionally slow down, let them attempt the SC, the move out of range on the WS, causing it to "be out of range". Then the THF just accomplices me and we keep going. Doing this takes a good amount of risk, but it makes this really fast.

The key is to kill X and the Z pet. Once this occurs, you can afford to wipe as many times as you want, as the X pet will become non-aggro and the annoying Z pet will be dead. After a few tries, a lot of people have told me this was really hard to start, but now pretty easy. I would really push for duoing this BC - it is not extremely difficult and you can really do this THF BLM, THF RDM, and I've ever done it BLM BLM. In the long run, it will save you time and annoyance to be able to do this with 2.

It's a really really great knife, especially for Mandau users as your offhand. The 100% chance of a 10% damage boost on something like a SA Mercy Stroke is pretty godly. Saku got it about a week ago and she STILL hasn't stopped thanking me

    Best of luck
