    Anti-Virus: Advisory?

So I've come to a point where I may need a new anti-virus, nothing has happened thus far, but the current one I have (Avast! Professional edition) can be somewhat of a resource hog.

A friend is recommending NOD32 or something to that degree, but I ask, what is the best anti- virus as of right now, free or otherwise?

    Thanks if answered.

I use ESET NOD32 myself atm; I find the interface about what I'd want in something, and easy to use, and not a massive resource hog. It has no free version, but... well, everything has cracks out there. >.>

AVG is also fairly popular, and has a free version available also, which also has a nice built in Spyware scan also (perhaps just their spyware software built into the AV? not sure honestly, though AVGAS is another program I use).

I believe Kaspersky is another quite well recommended one, but does not have a free version either.

I use the NOD32, as I said, and at least once a month, if not closer to once a week, run the free online scans from BitDefender, Trend Micro, and/or Kaspersky's websites as well. Those all require ActiveX and such, and don't delete infections if found. I just like having the extra scans since there always seems to be someone complaining that one brand of software or another doesn't keep as up-to-date on this, that, and the other. /shrug

Where do you stand morally on legitimate software licenses?

    Uh....

My version of Avast already kicks morals in the face, to leave it simply.

AVG Free is still the best one I've had in a long while, does its job without fucking with other apps or hogging resources and is really truly free to boot.

Symantec Corporate 10 is very nice, it's pretty gentle on resources and hasn't let me down yet.

If you're able to source a copy via torrent, or Usenet, or even via a university, you'd be pretty happy with it.
