    Guard/Shield/Parry skilling

So I'm currently skilling guard (223 atm) and my limit on raptors in the Valley of Sorrows is coming to an end and nothing is coming to mind for mobs that are a little higher in level, with a decent hitting speed. (Blk mandies still a bit high for me). Anything coming to mind? If anyone has done shield or parry, the mobs that work should be the same, which is why those two skills were also added in the topic.

    Try Aquarius :D

More seriously, what about those wootzshells or whatever? the toau crabs that are a tad lower than steelshells. Not the fastest attacks, but manageable dmg.

I was thinking the crawlers in mount z, honestly. Double attack alot, shouldn't be TOO hard hitting.

    Re: Guard/Shield/Parry skilling

I was thinking more or less a non ToAU zone. Mainly based on the fact of signet/sanction resting bonuses and defense bonuses on EM+. Evasion from these boni really isn't an issue based on the fact that I can always just grab an additional mob if I feel I'm not getting hit enough.

As for aquarius, I've solo'd him twice while was lower in guard skilling on Robber Crabs (though didn't do it in guard gear). The crabs didn't hit fast either, but I was able to fight four at once, so the skill ups went quickly.

Parrying 225 –> 235 (DC Flamingo at Sky)
    Parrying 235 –> 256 (DC - T Steelshell in the Boyahda Tree)

    Works for guard/shield too.

If you're feeling brave, Orcish Champions are 69-72 in Monastic Cavern, should be around that skill level.

I'm trying to cap shield there, and it's very slow getting any sort of skill-ups off them. I was getting more enhancing skill ups from re-casting Phalanx than shield

    Re: Guard/Shield/Parry skilling

Any higher-level Mandragora mob is Jesus for skilling up. The two easiest spots I can think or are Den of Rancor and The Boyadha Tree, just grab one and pull it to the zone and let it wail on you til you fear a death coming, then zone and heal.
I did Parrying on COR because of it's abyssmal evasion skill, since evasion will check before parry. I used an outside RDM to heal me about 80% of the time, but when that wasn't an option I'd abuse the zones when I had to.

Shoot Puck, engage, Light Shot when HP was low, run away, rinse, repeat. Took me about five days with at least 6 hours a day doing this, but it paid off nicely for all my other jobs. THF is fun when your evasion 80% of things, parry 10%, then see a shadow go down the other 10%.

I tried doing Mandies at around 178. IT got to the point I was tanking 3 of them at one time and never got any skills. Ohh I parried a crap load. But never saw a point. I was able to wear about -30+ evasion down gear for my nin. The mandies did miss me. But 3/4 of the time they were getting past it. Tried it with 3 crabs as well fromt he tree. Got 1 down to 1% then tanked number 2 to 1% then number 3 to 1% then I switched to earth staff and waited an hour til I could kill them all with it. Once again I didnt evade much. Seemed like I did when I needed to get a cure or shadow up. Otherwise it was a whale fest on me. Tons of parry no skills.

Same here, I sat last night for about 2 hours in the tree letting about 8 mandies whack away at my rdm and saw maybe .6 of a point. (175 skill btw)

    Fucking parry skill.

This is really it, just live at Pucks at temple zoneline until you cap. You will be there forever. I did cap all my combat skills on lollllRDM there, but at least they are capped (btw if any RDM doesn't have shield capped, RDM/BLU went from 170 to cap in like 90 mins :D )

Can't remember the level, but there are new Chigoe's in several WoTG area's, the one zoneline from Rolan [S] into Vunkerl has several inside that could be used for some of the 50ish level skilling I think.

    Re: Guard/Shield/Parry skilling

What I did for parry was use the chigoes that spawn off the Marids outside of whitegate. You will need a RDM buddy with Phalanx II but even if you go for short periods (1 hr) you will get good skill ups. Don't try to keep all 5 chigoe sup, i would suggest starting with 3 so kill the first 2 spawns then kill the marid.

Once the marid is dead move near a bee hive and target and engage a bee. Move around till you have all the chigoes in front of you, you don't need to be facing the bee. These chigoes will cap out at about 256, where my parry stopped on them.

Here are a couple pics of how you want to get yourself setup, slap on any -dmg gear mnk can wear and go to town.

    Re: Guard/Shield/Parry skilling

I love how the trick to Guard/Parry/Shield Skillup is an Alt RDM toon with capped Phalanx II and Enhancing Setup.

    Made only better by the fact that I need skillup on my THF and my main is RDM ; ;
    Irony...you cruel bitch.

If it weren't for CoP/Zilart Missions I'd buy a new Copy and level an Alt RDM

    Re: Guard/Shield/Parry skilling

Doesn't have to be capped Phalanx II or even a skill setup. I suggest this because I was getting a solid 5-7 levels an hour doing it like this. Using some of the other solo methods you are lucky to get .5 /hr at times. get a friend to walk outside Whitegate for an hour is worth 5-10 times that in solo time.
