How to sell a engagement ring.

So about 3 months ago fiance walked out the door after 7 years together. Been considering selling the ring for the past 2 months and think I have finally decided to sell it off. I bought it for $1,500 from a mom and pop jewelry store and they cut me a good deal, They let me choose what diamonds I wanted and the setting, ext and didn't charge me tax. Had it appraised a month after I got it and it was appraised at $2,900. So what is the best way to get the most for my money?

you can try on craigslist. if they have issues with the price, you can have them meet you at a reputable jeweler, so it can be appraised in front of them. you probably wont get the $2900 price, but i would expect to negotiate into the middle, around $2200-2300

I like where this is going. And I have no idea where you could sell the ring. Pawn shop is where I've always heard, but they probably won't give you what you paid for it.

Get the ring appraised for the fair market value of the ring. You most likely got the retail replacement value (the value used by your insurance company). I would then list it on craigslist.

Go around 3-4 local jewellery stores, dont just get it appraised - ask them what they would PAY you for it.
Then craigslist/we and fallback to whichever offered you the most if you need to huck it.

I would be surprised if any of the stores offered more than $1k.

I would be fine with anything around $700+ but thanks for the info. Going to avoid pawn shops if i can. So far seems like creigs list is where its at.

Goodluck, that really sucks. I agree, go and get the ring appraised and ask local jewelers how much they would pay for it. You can try selling on Craigslist but I can only imagine it will take a lot of time to find the right buyer, although there are often rings for sale there.

Did you try going back to the store you got it from? They may also have suggestions.

Going to go there to get it reappraised and talk to them about it. They were really nice when I bought it so hoping they will buy it back at a good price or maybe sell on consignment for me

honestly, e-bay is a great place, and if they appraised it, you got a really good rock (usually the ring itself is like 200-400 dollars, depending on stuff but not usually ever more than 500) but the stone you got sounds like you got it really nice. does it have a certificate with it? if so that helps. but yeah give it a couple weeks on e-bay and if you get an offer from a refutable buyer i'd take it.
