Hagun and Onimaru

Yes before someone flames the crap out of me!

Onimaru is NOT a replacement for Hagun I am aware of this and I am getting one and it is not my point that Onimaru is a replacement for Hagun.

I wondered if anyone had done some overall numbers crunching and can repost the summaries about how much Onimaru and Hagun differ in regular lets say Bird camp meritting. (disregarding polearm and soboro + bow builds here)

I do not have a Hagun yet and yes I gimp with an Onimaru atm so please do flame me for that, I just want to know how much my overall performance will increase/change with Hagun (in overall melee dot and overall WS damage in comparison between these two weapons).

Please start every reply with a short flame about Onimaru if you so like but please contribute to the topic at hand while doing so.

Honestly Onimaru is not a bad weapon, I'm guessing it's like a 2-5% performance increase using a Hagun over an Onimaru.

I don't have merit PT data with Onimaru, But I do have some with Hagun. I can say WS average is 110-130 dmg higher.

Number crunching is really depends on what sub you are using.

The Data may be somewhere else, but what ended up parsing better, Rana or Y/G/K on merit grind? And wasn't there some question on is hagun wins out over BluesClues with Rana?

Could be totaly off, but this post just reminded me of that stuff.

if you are going to strictly use onimaru, you should probably just spam Tachi Rana in make a build for that. It can work in some areas under normal 2 brd buffs like Front mamool camp and birds. But I've also tried it on Jade. and unless you have 3 buffers with 2 DD's in the pty Y/K/G with a hagun will always beat it there.

Just replace Onimaru with Hagun in the crunching I guess. 4/5 Store TP merits atm (you chould be able to guess what most gears are but if something is unclear ask, and that is a Pole grip btw).

I know some Sams who have used Onimaru and have done very well even before Tachi: Rana. Price wise it's a good investment for the damage improvement but its not like you're a gimp without it.

I've used both, I'm still a bit short of buying a Hagun but I've borrowed one when its owner was on BRD. I seem to consistently do between 70 and 150 less per WS with Onimaru, barring flukes here and there.

only if you use hagun, on high DMG GKs rana will outdmg YGK most of the time (merit mob ofc)

4/5 store TP atm and did calculations for it earlier and it should maintain 6hit otherwise I wouldn't wear that little Store TP in plain gear.

=> +48=>17tp/hit*5=85

WS:brutal rajas => +39 =>15.9

=>100.9TP

I would say, that in many camps, with proper *Attack* buffs and a decent compliment of gear, Onimaru+Rana can come very close to keeping up with (possibly beat!) Hagun Y/G/K. Keep in mind that Onimaru is the premier (non-relic) katana to use Tachi-Rana with, and you're getting attack buffs which give more benefit to Tachi: Rana than to Y/G/K.

On HNM targets, you're not using Tachi: Rana, (except to open 2-part darkness) and Onimaru has lost it's most potent new ally. Hagun ftw always and forever.

Why use Rana ever outside of self darkness? That doesnt make any sense at all, I've never ever heard or seen any parse with Rana close to Gekko. And its Gekko, not y/g/k.

Onimaru works fine. Hagun is an upgrade but I mean, its not going to make or break you. Just save up for it and until then use Onimaru. There is no concrete % increase with Hagun over Onimaru really, its just another one of those upgrades that pushes up your dmg a bit more. Its no "OMFG I'm a beast now" upgrade.

Btw, look into getting a Smart Grenade for melee set. Its free and takes just a little bit of time to go through the CS to get it, has +4 attack as hidden effect.

Hagun is about a 5% upgrade. I honestly haven't compared the two if you are using Tachi: Rana on onimaru instead of gekko, but I can probably do that if needed.
