    PS3 HDTV trouble

Sorry if it's in the wrong place, this seems to all be PC, but it's the closest I could find.

Between my income tax return and retailers slashing prices to compete with Circuit City's liquidation, I was finally able to upgrade to an HDTV. Hardware works fine, cable TV looks great, but here's the problem.

Everything displayed by the PS3 (XMB, PS3 games, PS2 games/FFXI [it's a launch PS3]) has this slight green and/or purple shadow to the right. Didn't have the problem when PS3 was hooked up to the SDTV.

HDTV is a 32" 720p machine, and I'm using composite cables for the PS3 (had them lying around from a side project). So far I've fiddled with all the TV/PS3 settings semi-randomly to no avail.

    Anyone have any solutions?
    Thanks in advance

Could be a number of things, the first thing I would try would be new cables which is most likely the problem if the PS3 was fine before on the old tv and the tv has normal picture when not hooked up to the PS3.

Just a question to go off of though, how is the picture on the tv, is it normal when not hooked up to the PS3?

Yup, perfectly fine if PS3 is hooked up or not, it only happens when I display what's coming from the PS3.

It's overkill for 720p, but I'll grab a PS3 HDMI cable in a day or two, unless anyone has another idea in the mean time.

Do you have a DVD player or anything with a component hookup you could test the wires out on?

Assuming your cable box is on component/HDMI and not on composite...Have you tried composite? Your TV's upscaler may just really suck at converting 480i to 720p.

Do you mean component? That might be the problem if they are composite using an 720p signal.

Yar, it was the cables. Went and got some cheap HDMI and everything looks perfect now.

    Thanks again

(And note: whoever named these things can fuck off, component/composite, assholes.
I was using the 3 jack plugs when SD; I used the 5 jack with HD, that caused the shadows; now using HDMI, problem solved)
