When I had a WoW trial account (got bored 1 weekend) tells/whispers were disabled, so if they are doing it in WoW they must have real accounts.

Out of the box chatmon seems to be an older version, the one from the site does a much better job. Yes the RMT tells are an issue that should have been resolved within 2 weeks of them appearing.

GMed the latest one the other night and made the comment about having names near the start of the alphabet was getting annoying - GM's comment was "yep we usually get them by the time they get to the letter D"

If they weren't spamming these every 20 minutes they might get more hits - the site is certainly superficially convincing enough to hook a few muppets in.

I think they've started to counteract how they get "banned by D" by having different spambot mules start at different letters of alphabet. First couple of months of this I had nice quiet evenings since I'm a "V". Now on an average evening I see three different RMT mule names spamming myself, my husband ("S") and the mule we have logged on lot of the time ("L"). Often we get the /tell within moments of each other, who knows, they may even have a bot for every single letter from A to Z. So just being at the end of the alphabet is not a saving grace anymore.

I put Chatmon on few weeks ago but it doesn't seem to be 100% effective. We still get 1-3 /tells every evening. Better than getting 10+ though.

This shit is ridiculous, a GM would never say "Dear game player", or "thanks" instead of thank you. Anyone who has played this game for more than a year should know this shit. Sadly people are still dumb enough to fall for this shit.
