    Wireless conectivity problems

So I have recently come back from school for a bit for fall break and have been trying to get on my home's wireless network.

For some reason I cannot connect to the wireless here at home. I had no problems connecting before I went off to school so I assumed it had to do with some of the firewalls that I had to install for the school IT.
I took all of these off and still no luck
It says that I cam connected to the wireless network but when I go to open firefox it says that the page cannot be found.
I've really tried everything that I can think of but NOTHING works. Granted, I have wireless access just fine on my Mac and that has all of the school things.

Also interesting is the fact that I cannot get on my home network with my iPod anymore either

    Any help would be appreciated.

I am running Windows XP on Bootcamp (fully upgraded service packs and all) with a Linksys WRT54G router.

    Thanks!

what is your IP address? check by going to start > run (type CMD) > ipconfig

generally when this happens it means that they changed something, usually the wireless key to log on, or you changed something - like the connection settings required by your school.

Gonna go ahead and say that the above is your problem. Try connecting with OSX first. Then if OSX doesn't work, go and buy a new router. WRT54G's are absolute trash depending on the revision/where it was made. I've had two and I've wanted to kill myself using them.

I have a feeling that your school has a proxy filter and that the stuff you installed changed your adapter settings so all your traffic would route through the proxy. Now that you're home and the proxy isn't accessible, you have no internet. Try checking your firefox, IE, and wireless adapter settings and clear any proxy settings that are in there.

It may not be it but.. sounds plausible to me anyway.

Doubt it, considering the rest of his family seems to get online no problem.

Seeing as how this is a thread about wireless problems, maybe i can get some help as well.

    I use a 2wire gateway ( 2Wire 2701HG-B).

I have my desktop connected with a ethernet cable.

    My laptop is wireless.

As soon as i turn on my desktop( as soon as i hit the power button) the wireless signal from the router goes away, and i can't get a signal on any of my other wireless devices.

After i turn off the desktop the signal comes back and everything is ok.

I have checked and scanned both for spyware / viruses and nothing is there. There are no programs set to start during boot up.

My desktop is on Vista 64bit Laptop is on Win 7 32bit.

i feel like it almost has to be a proxy thing seeing as how i can connect to the router just fine but not to the internet. unfortunately i do not know how to change the proxy. also when i went to run ipconfig it opened the command window for a split second and then closed. idk if that means anything or not

IF your modem is like mine

Unplug your ISP modem > unplug router

    Wait 30sec

Replug ISP (wait till it'S fully booted) then plug your router

You removed all the wireless profiles and tried reconnecting?

Should have worked unless its the IP settings or something else on your wireless card thats messed up.

In IE go to tools> internet options > connections tab > LAN settings button.

Uncheck proxy server if there is one and check "automatically detect settings"

    Close out IE and relaunch.

Firefox is very similar, I'm just used to setting up the config script at work in IE.

Your wireless adapter may have a set IP in there that may be conflicting with your home network.

I'm sure theres a easier way of getting there but go to control panel -> Network and Internet -> Manage wireless networks -> Adapter Properties -> Click on Internet Protocol and click on properties and make sure both are set at obtain IP automaticlly ...DNS too.
