yes, just need bootcamp and/or parallels but unless you have a 'pro' model with a nonintegrated vid card it will be shit
An ATI2600(common apple gpu before the 8800) actually runs FFXI better than any newer video card does.
You can use bootcamp, parrells, or if you're daring crossover(wine) to run FFXI on a mac.
LoL so basically since I went with the Pro I shouldn't even play it? and stick with xbox -.-
It'll run fine Jigoku.
KK, thank you for the help guy's, download over 5000+ Files of updates currently ; ;
Though performance isn't great, Intel integrated is still better than the console versions, especially if run at the same resolution as those >_>
Macbook pro runs FFXI great. Just install it through boot camp (native windows)
Which MacBook Pro? Because all of the 13" MacBooks and MacBook Pros as well as one of the 15" MacBook Pros all run NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics.
I'm kind of curious about this as well. I have one of the original 13" Aluminum Macbooks (pretty much same specs as 13" pro now).
Which is more than enough for FFXI, people need to remember that we're talking about a game that run at full frame-rate on a geforce3, the only reason intergrated *CPU* based graphics have issues with the game is because it's already a CPU centric game so you're splitting resources and then run into bandwidth issues with games.
9400M is a dedicated GPU and FFXI will basically run fine on any dedicated GPU above a Geforce2 that has T&L support.
Um, my first-gen Intel iMac runs FFXI fabulously under bootcamp (WinXP). I bought it in 2006.
tl;dr If your mac is intel-based (and therefore able to run Windows) you're going to be just fine.
Yeah, any current Macbook...or any other not-so-anctient laptop(GMA and above) will be able to run it just fine. 9400M, shared memory or not is way more than enough.
To give you an idea, my Intel GMA900 laptop from 2004 and P3 500 GeForce 2 MX440 desktop runs the game with a quite decent FPS.
Double post but its quite important...if you are planning to install boot camp, make sure you allocate AT LEAST...
40gigs for XP.
50gigs for Vista&Windows 7.
For overall gaming having an external drive helps alot.
sorry for the bump.. im having some trouble installing FFXI on mac..
i have a new MBP and i'm using Parallels 6 for my install since I used that for my Win install too...
Using an ultimate collection iso i found on demonoid for the install... and POL installs fine, but the game and directx8.1 doesnt..
im assuming directx is somehow needed? trying to install results in a dsetup.dll not found message. i tried dling that and registering it but the register entry point cant be found, so idk what i should do..
FFXI can't install either... i get an error saying error reading setup initiation file.. i kinda get the feeling its related to the DirectX thing.. but i really have no idea..
any help?
edit: actually nvm everything seemed to work after i mounted the iso in the VM instead of in mac... which should probably have been kinda common sensey..
I just got VMware Fusion on my macbook pro. I was able to install everything fine but when I launch POL it says graphics card is not compatible. I can hear the music and move around the menu (can hear it) but black screen.
15" macbook pro. 4GB RAM. 2.53GHz proc. NVIDIA GeForce 9400M
whats the deal? any tricks that I do not know about? i just got the virtual machine software and for some reason I am jonesing to reactivate my account even if it is just to run around vana'diel....
HELP!!!
