summaried in a few words: Watch how fast everyone on stage runs to the extreme right on the economy.
Ron Paul made out the best in that debate probably, mostly because he took on the other members of the party and was able to explain his ideas. The polls indicate Newt Gingrich did pretty well, although I thought the questions asked by Chris Wallace weren't particularly "Gotcha" and he came off as kinda a whiney baby.
The big loser in all this is probably Tim Pawlenty, who had his claws out for Michelle Bachmann and Mitt Romney and the way he was swiping at everyone within reaching distance made him just seem about as desperate as he probably is. I think people were probably a little confused at Rick Santorum's attempts to moderate his message, personally I think it's hilarious that he'd stick up for gay rights in Iran but not in the United States, lol.
Michelle Bachmann did pretty well, although you could definitely see the anger in her face when she was asked if she'd be submissive to her husband as president, as much as I disagree with her politics I found the question pretty sickening. It feels like we don't have a problem with female senators and senior cabinet members, but when it comes to a female presidential/vice presidential candidate there's almost like an implied "toughness test" by the media.
I guess you could say Mitt Romney came out on top of the debate, since he was the front runner going into the debate and no one really knocked him down that many pegs. He spent a large portion of the debate running from his record though, and I think he's probably more afraid of Rick Perry than anyone else on that stage.
All the Republican candidates are weak. Can't wait for Palin and Perry to join the circus.
Actually the real winner here was Obama, since everyone up there made themselves look like baffoons. Especially Romney, Bachmann and Cain.
Also.. love this question: "Say you had a deal, a real spending cuts deal, 10-to-1 ... spending cuts to tax increases. Who on this stage would walk away from that deal?" Not a single one of them said they'd accept it - proof that they are not interested in doing what the people want.
Yeah that part was particularly striking, I also found it hilarious that of all the people on the stage Rick Santorum was the one advocating making compromises while everyone else seemed to think it was a dirty word.
And Perry is definitely in, but Palin definitely is not. She'd much rather be a celebrity than president, which is why she keeps showing up wherever there are cameras. Unless she's been working in secret she hasn't even started to hire staff and do the work you'd do to become a candidate. All Palin cares about is furthering the Palin brand, and she knows she can do that a lot easier if she's not running for office.
Ron Paul won![]()
If she hadn't personally specifically said that "wives are supposed to be submissive to their husbands" and that she went to law school because her husband told her to, it would be a sickening question.
But she did say all those things, so it's a totally reasonable question.
This. When a candidate makes their faith a part of their platform, and has specified certain controversial parts of their faith as she has, the question becomes fair. It is really little different than asking a Catholic about obeying the pope: some people, like JFK, are willing to make a distinction between their personal life and political office, and their role in office. Others are not, and to this point, Bachman has based many of her politics and popularity on her faith.
These idiots make political decisions.
god help us
I wonder if Ron Paul could actually beat Obama.
like, not joking even
Ron Paul has the best chance of beating Obama. He will actually get some of the dems/independants to vote for him.
Id vote for anyone that would really make Marijuana legal. Same for anyone that would really make healthcare free.
I love how people keep claiming Paul does the best in the debates when pretty much every single time he's in a debate he has at the very least 1 moment where he's basically asked "do you really think your ideas could ever actually work," and he sits there blatantly knowing the answer is a flat out no and thinking of how to get out of it for about 10 seconds before rambling incoherently until the time limit.
Also it's already been mentioned, but the question wasn't in relation to Bachmann being a woman in general, it was her who stated that she didn't want to go to tax law schooling but her husband said she should and women are supposed to be submissive to their husbands.
I'm honestly not sure how you can miss that when it literally was the question lol, but I suppose it's the same methodology people use to come to the conclusion that Ron Paul isn't a fucking loon.
The more I think about it, the more I think Bachmann was probably hurt overall by that performance. She was like... staring straight ahead trying to stay on message during her argument with Tim Pawlenty, and her weird moment of silence after the "submissive wife question" just made her look... scared almost, rather than passionate. Not to mention she was saying that she hoped the country defaulted, she may have appeased the tea party but I don't think she made a lot of friends outside of Iowa. Up against Rick Perry she's such a weak candidate on record, there's no way I see her making it to the end anymore... up until last week I would have said it was a competition between Romney and Bachmann... now it will almost definitely be Perry vs. Romney. Funny that Perry probably won that debate, and he didn't even show up lol
Herman Cain quotes Pokemon song during debates.
Nothing strange about that on the surface, until you Google the quote and you realize that these words of wisdom were uttered not by a poet, but by disco queen Donna Summer in her song "The Power of One." Even more bizarre, this isn't even one of Summer's classic hits — she recorded it just over a decade ago as the theme song for Pokémon: The Movie 2000.
now all I'm going to be able to think of when I see Cain is "what do you get when you look up donna summer in the phone book?"
