current beta is full, waiting on invite for next beta myself
i really like the "circles" aspect of it, many times i have wanted to post something to facebook only to be held back because there may be someone on my list that i do not want to see
SURE WISH I COULD GET ON THE GOOGLE PLUS SOMEONE PLX SHARE ME AN INVITE PLOX
You forgot the alt text man!
By the way, since we're on the subject. Anybody have a clue what the delay is from google sending out a street view car to the results going online? On one hand, you'll never be able to convince your parents to switch. On the other hand, you'll never be able to convince your parents to switch!
Cause a car went right past me yesterday.
Also, from what I've read, people cannot invite others at the moment. Just have to register and wait.

When you go to share stuff, there's a lock you can click and select people who can see it or people who can't see it. Is excellent for trolling.

But idk, I got my sister, brother, dad, stepmom all on facebook and I don't really have problems posting anything. I don't know how much they actually go on it but yeah. I can definitely see the appeal in it being easier to hide shit from people.
Not that I want another social site to sign up for, but I said the same thing when I joined Facebook way back whens, SO WHO KNOWS?
One place where facebook has failed is mobile integration. I think anyone who uses the iPhone facebook app can attest that it's far from streamlined. I heard they're supposed to release some new kind of HTML5 webapp though, so we'll see. If google can streamline the mobile integration and actually get a substantial userbase, it'll be worth it.
android fb just updated. its nooooooooooot bad
whats really fun is posting an embarrassing/dirty secret about someone, and making it so only they can see it, and they flip out thinking its public
Not just that, but you can set up people into predefined groups, then just type those groups into the exclusions. Seems to be exactly what Surrealistic wanted. On my page, I have my phone/contact info hidden from people in my "Work" group ... and my entire page sans basic bio/work history from my "Family" Group. I have this set permanently so I can't make a mistake.
You just gotta watch it when you have permanent blocks. One time I wanted to send a status to "Person A" who is in my "Group B" ... but "Group B" is set to never see my wall, so that trumps the fact that I specifically sent the status only to "Person A" and therefore no one but myself could see it.
Edit : I'd screenshot the menus, but I can't cause FB is blocked here at work.
Edit 2: Oh, and those groups also sort your FB Chat window and you can individually "Log Off" so some groups never know you're even online while you're off chatting to the other groups.
inb4 zuckerberg sells FB
...and the world finally moves on to the next pointless social networking site that will eventually be riddled with advertising like those before it.
Google+ is a pretty weak name though. You would think that they would come up with something a bit more catchy like Buzz/Wave/Chrome/Voice/Android/Picasa/etc.
I have a friend who works at google who has promised me an invite for the next beta, but if that doesn't work out, invite me prz.
it's amazing how many pies google has its finger in. i don't particularly care for fb, so google overlords welcome etc, etc. it'll be nice when google just decides that the internet is its social network. your droids and your chromes will provide an end-to-end Google Experience®
The vibe I've been hearing throughout the industry from people I respect is that "social network fatigue" is really starting to set in, at least in the U.S.. The Facebook population in the U.S. has not only plateaued but it's declining and shows no real sign of recovery.
As far as how this will affect Google+, I haven't seen it yet but I think their launch timing is really poor. Seems like everywhere I go now there are social networks, I have my personal one, one for work, hell even Gamefly has one now... people do use them but in regards to Google+ surplanting Facebook it would take a miracle of epic proportions. Like it or not people are entrenched in Facebook because everyone they know is on there and it's become a part of their lives. Facebook has no value in the platform or service it offers honestly, in fact it's pretty damn subpar, but the sheer amount of relevant personal data they have on millions of people around the world makes the company worth billions and billions.
Google should just be happy that people care about Orkut in Brazil and stop wasting money in channels where they are behind the 8 ball. Stick to search and be happy to have a large slice of internet pie instead of going for the entire thing. Damn son.
Do you mean the population growth is down or the actual subscriptions are down, because I have a hard time believing they see more accounts closing daily than activating in the US. Most people would just let them idle off.
I think the same things you are saying, people would have said about Android when IOS, RIM, and webOS were huge, and they've pretty much cornered the market on non iphones. Hell, at one point, Blackberry and Palm looked unstoppable. I agree with you though, I don't know if they are going to offer anything new and exciting enough to pull people from facebook like they got with android. They had a huge grassroots following from the original G1 with the open platform, and it just eventually blew up.
