Dear Friends,

We are reopening this thread in order to declutter the sarkeesian/feminism/it's so hard out here for a man thread. Gamergate stuff from that thread will be moved over in time. I am choosing to leave Kuya's OP because satire fucking pwns and all of you Daily Show and Colbert Report lovers know it. I am sorry if it puts your panties in a twist. Perhaps you can post something to refute it. Maybe tell us again about the time gamergate raised money for FYC. I don't think we have been told about that enough.

I thought i'd separate the GG thread from the feminism thread since a few GG members said it's not about feminism. Meanwhile, i'm gonna post this sweet article about GG. I also think, if mods don't mind, that discussions about GG in the feminism thread should be transferred here, but that might be too much work and I understand.

Definitely a poor-taste opening post. Ignore The Fine Young Capitalists being funded through 4chan, ignore the change of ethics that Escapist has begun to launch after agreeing that journalists should aspire to do more, ignore the GamerFruit charity that sprung up in recent light that ONLY exists because one of the "victims" of Gamergate made a volatile tweet and didn't even check the target first.

Ignore that the targeted websites being "financially punished" all wrote articles claiming the gamer demographic being advertised to was "dead," and ignore that the ads pulled agreed that their company's values didn't mesh with the tone of those websites and articles. Look at the teeny number of interviews pro-GG voices have been allowed to participate in compared to the volley of "MISOGYNYYYYYYY" articles run by first: those accused of questionable ethics and second: hack writers skimming the most-tweeted facts designed to claim it's all about Anita and Zoe.

In other words, continue to sling shit and pretend it's discourse.

Article is ridiculous bait and personifies the core of the entire controversy.

The Anti-GG core SJWs are taken nearly at face value for everything they say by the media. Essentially, their words are fact and you're problematic and/or toxic for questioning them.

Actual GG supporters though are clearly lying through their teeth on everything, and as such should be heavily investigated and have every last little bit of dirt on them dug up and regurgitated 24/7. It's only fair, right?

When a group can literally post "Hey guys, when are we going to kill Anita Sarkesian? Let me know at the meeting place" on 4chan, take a screenshot of their own fucking post and post it on their blog, claim it's "GamerGate" and get multiple media organizations reporting exactly that, then what?

Right...

It still isn't about women. It never was. Sparked by one cheating on her boyfriend, yes, but it wasn't about her, it was about why she did it (the presumed free-coverage).

2. Locking this for now. I am totally fine with having a separate gamergate thread, but this isn't the way to do it. I don't have the time to split the other thread as I am full on finishing my kids' costumes atm. But if another mod wants to that's fine. If not after Halloween I can do it.

Regardless of anything resembling truths or realty, #gamergate people are defeated by their inability to ignore bait. The pace of the conversation is now made up almost entirely of the Next Threatened Person and the dialogue will never go back to anything resembling a goal. Felicia Day got doxxed! Obviously Gamergate people.

Gamergate is to gaming culture what Anonymous was to internet culture: If something happened, they did it. They had a chance to change the dialogue and double down on their claims, but at this point it's fighting for the ability to speak that's killing them, not their message.

Yes, a post on tumblr being doxxed (and by doxxed I mean posting the first google result for "Felicia day's address") within minutes by someone posing as Internet Aristocrat and making sure to use the #GamerGate tag and blown up into a thing by anti-GG faster than I can google "Who the fuck is Felicia Day?" is very representative of what GG is putting up with.

And before you give me shit about my lofty standard for doxxing, it's Zoe Quinn approved
