    ZOMG pc is dead help!

I'm on hold with tech support since i'm basically a n00b when it comes to HOW a computer works, not really the whys and whats.

Anyways, I hit the power switch, it beeps.

"BEEP BEEP BEEP" then shuts down, and sometimes will do it again and sometimes it will shut down. Theres no output to the monitor and doesn't run a bios or any start up function. the CD-roms start up for a second but don't do anything, disk in or now.

I opened up the case and the only thing that is strange is some of the fans aren't running. The 2 outside case fans are running, but the CPU fan, and this other little tiny one that sits next to the CPU one are both dead. I looked at the connections and they seemed fine.

Any insight on to what I can do?

If CPU fans arnt running (depends on bios) the PC will not start, and that IS a good thing. Even a very little time without the fan on, and the cpu on, it'll quickly burn up.

Replace the fan. Either the one you have is dead, or a wire is goofed up, or the connection on the board is fuxed (hope thats not the problem). Either way, you gotta get that fan working.

Have a spare fan lying around? Plug it in and see if it works, or plug the one currently plugged in, into another PC, to see if its dead or not. Im not really sure what you can do to fix a broken connector on a motherboard, short of inspecting the board caarefully and seeing if there is any solderings gone bad or w/e. Worse to worse, have to buy a new board.

Thanks for the tips, will be working on that shortly. Theres 4 pc's in this room, the broken one and 3 gimps, i'll pull some pieces to see if that fan is fried or motherboard, not sure where the MB manual is though...probably garage.

Thanks for quick feedback, still on hold...

Turns out its ABIT and that little fan that won't come on is ABIT too, I took the plug for a side case fan and plugged the CPU fan into it and the CPU fan came on. however I still go the same errors.

Is this recognizing that there is no CPU fan working or that there is a fan down somewhere or both?

My gigabyte board, the bios it has, as with others, will only come on if there is a fan plugged into the CPU fan connection, and comes on.

Since the fan appears to be working, it may be the connection that has the problem. Try finding a similiar fan to plug in? I dunno, you may have to jerk with the help desk dudes.

customer support is telling me what you all are. except that I have to ask, what? what? alot because they are in India with some thick accents. anyways...

The cpu fan DOES work, but the PC itself won't come on, and i think what you guys are saying is that the plug from the cpu-fan/motherboard connection is fried. opening up 2nd pc to see if i can't jimmy-rig something to get it up...

    update:

still giving me the alarm, have the CPU fan hooked into the auxillary fan power and some reason the computer is running but the alarm still goes, now going into the BIOS...

The CPU fan power on the motherboard will run the auxillary fan too

hook everything back up the way it was originally and reset the bios, something may have gotten fucked in there somehow, resetting it may fix the problem

ya i got it working with the aux power running the CPU fan, went into the BIOS and turned off every alaram, reboot ad lib, once things seemed to be working ok, put everything back into where it belonged and it starts just fine.

Reformatting the harddrive and not gonna fuck around with this PC anymore, just gaming, the other pc cand be for intraweb so i can reduce future problems. i might be jumping guns but whatever to reduce if i have the resource i suppose.
