    Paypal

I need some help, do any of you use paypal to pay for FFXI, if so how does it work? From what i understood you register, enter in some of your personal info and then get a account, then you can transfer cash from your bank account to your paypal account, and it also provides you with a credit card number. Is this all true? and if so have you guys got any reasons to not use this?

Thanks in advance, and sorry for the bother.

Paypal doesn't provide a credit card number unless you sign up for their card, as far as I know. I've never received any sort of number resembling a credit card in all of my years of Paypal.

the debit card they give you is free, you just need to be a verified member.

Verification is very easy, they deposit a very small amount of money into your account and you have to match them and tell them what amount i was (all automated).

Then, you're verified and you can get the card.

You are a life safer, but because I am retarded, I feel i must ask. This debit card, i presume it offers some numbers that I can, say, use as credit card numbers on POL so i can fucking play again? And if so where exactly do I find the numbers? Do i request them or... yea...?

The card comes in the mail, and the numbers are just there like any other debit/credit card. My question is, if you have a bank account to begin with, why not just get a debit card from there to play FFXI?

It's a good thing if you don't have a debit card from your bank, or if you are a frequent buyer/seller on Ebay/IGE. Other than that, Paypal has no real uses. Call your bank up and ask for a Debit card. Takes 2 weeks or so to deliver.

The thing I like the most about a Paypal debit card is that if you overcharge, it uses your next available source of income. I have 2 bank accounts, 1 with and 1 without PP. I overdrew one account by $12, but I had tied my second account to the card, so it took the remaining $12 out of it instead of screwing me over.

also, you need to have money in your paypal account for the card to work. So if you're going to use it to pay for your FF11 bill, you might want to transfer like 15 bucks a month from your bank account to your paypal. (you do it right on paypal in "add funds").

Its a bad thing to have a debit card? Im gonna have to make you my teacher here, mind explaining. So would it be ok if I have a debit card from my bank and a PP card? Which would you suggest, if i where say, only to use such a card for FFXI, bank or PP?

You can always ask the bank, I am sure they would be happy to explain it to you. (I would, but I always mix up which card does what...I don't use them too often x.x)

Nothing wrong with having a debit card at all. You don't get charged for having one or for using it, unless a specific ATM machine charges a fee (it'll tell you if it does). I'd choose a bank Debit over Paypal debit, just because it takes 3-5 days for money to even transfer into your Paypal account from your Bank account. A bank debit card is an instant transaction from your bank with no in-between stuff. Also, your bank will offer you more legal protection than paypal ever will.

By the time you deposit cash into your bank, drive home and put in your credentials to pay for something online with your debit card, your money is ready to be used. That is only if you used cash, though. A check may take a few hours, or even a day to clear.

I've read recently that it's a good idea to use your debit card as a credit card (that is, don't enter you PIN, instead have them print out something you sign). Your PIN and card number get stored into their database until they send it off to wherever, and that's how hackers are stealing from lots of bank accounts by hacking into those databases. I'm considering it myself, especially after one day a few months back someone in my town noticed one of those things on an ATM that records you making a transaction/entering your PIN etc.

Edit: Of course you'd need to have the Visa, Mastercard, or whatever logo on your debit card to do this I think. At least mine has it.

I used Paypal's virtual debit card quite a bit when I lived overseas. It's basically a mastercard # they give that is linked to your account (it's instant, no waiting in the mail), for more info go to paypal.com and search "virtual debit" in the help section.
