    Another Router/IP address problem

So yeah i have been running a WRT54G router for 1.5 years now. Running alot of stuff. Desktop, PS2, 360, are all hardwired and got a laptop, cell phones, PS3, and friends laptop(on certain weekends) rolling wifi. Most days have PS2, desktop and my laptop rolling ffxi(me, my wife, and PL account).

Well just in the last week my router keeps losing the ip addresses of the systems. At least that is what the pop up window is saying. I am running Cable and never had this problem before. Up until last week i NEVER had to reset the router and only time it got turned off was when we moved apartments. Well now it is a every 45 min i have to reset the router and this is even when i am just trolling forums with no ffxi running. Don't seem to have the problem if i go straight to the cable box but kinda hard to test cause then i only have 1 computer on the internet. Anyway is it time to buy a new router? I am pretty router retarded. If a new one is needed any suggestions?

    Thanks

Don't use the DHCP. Assign the IP addresses manually.

With all the people coming and going in my house that hook up to my wifi I would cry to have to assign all those IP addresses. Think i am just gonna get a new router cause now it is screwing up on just the ps2 and desktop running ffxi. Crashed us after every assault tonight.

Should i stick with linksys or switch? In all honesty it worked for 18months and i figure that is a lifetime for this new technology -.-

PS: crashed me 2 times trying to post this and only the desktop is on the internet atm

If you're going to stick with Linksys, get the WRT54GL and use custom firmware.
If you don't feel like Linksys, Netgear perhaps? Not sure really.

Oh no... not a Linksys WRT54G. Throw that POS out the window and never look at it again because its garbage. I had one, and I kept getting d/c on FFXI. The only other person in my apartment hooked up to the router was my roommate, and he was playing lolWoW.

I finally decided to throw it away because I was trying to set up a LAN connection with a friend on a game (can't remember it right now), and it never worked. We tried every single configuration we could think of, tampered with the router settings, uninstalled and re-installed the game, nothing worked. Finally, I decided to look around on forums and I found that people have had SO MANY problems with that certain router version they decided to get a new router. I did the same and what do you know? I can play that game on a LAN connection now lol....

I think it's time for a new router.

Ya, it really is insane the difference between quality in the WRT54G and the WRT54GL. Thats why I always yap about paying attention to the model and not the brand of your router.

(The L in the WRT54GL stands for Linux btw)
