I don't know if i could call over 10 "low manned", but Kaeko's livejournal has a good description of the fight with 6-8 people. Basically all damage from BLMs, with a nin/drk and support. Building up an Ultima set myself actually, so I'm going to have to start planning out how we work the fight too.
Did it with 10 if that fits your plans.
NIN/DRK
PLD/NIN
WHM
RDM
BRD
THF
DRK (d/c'd 2min in)
SAM
BLM
BLM

2tanks, whm, rdm, brd
blm, blm, blm, brd, drk(with a SE/BW setup)
Fight it normal to 20ish% stunning dissipation at 79, 59, 39. Chainspell stun and full zerg the last 20%. If it isn't dead for some reason, you should still have 15-30 minutes, zombie it to 0.
CS stun is kind of a bad for Ultima imo, especially when low-manned.
Better to just go slow and steady, CS stun causes more problems than what it is worth because if he pops Magic Shield mid-zerg you are just gonna get destroyed by Armor Buster spam. Sure you might get lucky, but when you get unlucky 2-3 Armor Busters in a row will pretty much kill anyone in range of it.
This is very true. We used to bring 18 in but begin experimenting with 12 man set ups. My favorite set up is as follows.
2x PLD
RDM
WHM
BRD
BLM
2x SAM/THF
BRD
WHM
RDM

Basically, we progress through the fight as normal and then have a very controlled 20% > 0% that involves trick attacking a single tank capable of surviving Citadel Buster. I actually wrote a livejournal post about it, although I haven't followed it up with any of our later attempts and what have you.
Kimi, I think the lowest my LS has done it with was 11. It was very rough. 100>25 is no problem. The only real concern is make sure you have enough damage to push him down the rest of the way. I would say make sure that the melees that you do take have high damage 2hrs, like SAM, MNK, maybe a DRK w/ a death wish. Also, try to get your BLMs to full MP before you push him into CB range. Make sure that people only use their 2hrs immediately after a shield goes up. For Example tell you Melees to pop their 2hrs right after they see a Magic shield goes up. This will hopefully give them a big enough window to make the most of it.
Our 11 man was a win... but he died to Bio/Poison while unclaimed, so no one got the title >.> But we got the box, so that's all that matters lol.
Hit me up ingame if you have any questions.
Didn't really think of magic shield screwing you up, last time I did ultima(like 6 months ago or more) this is how we did it, though there isn't a reason your 2 tanks and drk can't have a bash order in case something like that happens. It really should be dead in that 30-45 seconds.
We uses 1 tank party (4-6) and a party of 3-5 SMNs to bring this guy down. One guy keep reporting its shield and SMNs will do the job.
