PLD/RDM

I recently leveled RDM to 37 as a subjob for my PLD. My dirty secret is that I have no idea how PLD/RDM tanking would work. Whenever anything needed tanking, I'd either go /WAR or /NIN, so I'm completely and utterly new to the idea of tanking stuff with /RDM.

So, I'm throwing myself at the mercy of BG. I'm looking for any kind of advice. Gear choices and necessities, tanking methods, best situations, etc. Any help at all would be much obliged.

/RDM is for soloing really.

Only thing I can think of that you'd tank /RDM is JoL, and it's not any different from regular tanking you just add dispel into your hate tools.

That's how my LS does it but our PLDs usually go /DRK.

The problem with using PLD/RDM is the same as /WAR or /DRK, you just take a lot of damage. Leave /RDM for PvP and solo, go /NIN on everything for spectacular hate keeping and damage mitigation

Yeah, because that damage mitigation works wonders on Jailer of Love and Ouryu. Oh wait.

PLD/RDM works well against Aspid and Faf too, you just don't see people using it too often. It's not like you need shadows for those things anyway.

Mainly for JoL/Ouryu and solo, can work on other things that you bloodtank if you want. Spam Flash,Dispel,Sleep,Bind and Cure Bomb yourself. Pretty easy to hold hate with those 4 spells. If you have the MP you can toss up Stoneskin and Blink as well to mitigate damage.

that pld also had 2 relics, weapon/shield.

with a few meds though, a pld with just the shield (and the ice spike pants), can still solo it. i had a pld friend take 5 shots at it for fun :D

JoL and Ouryuv2 if you sleep him on the ground are the two big ones in tanking situations. The rest is gravy and soloing.

Blind is awesome for hate, has a tiny recast and costs 5 mp. The spells I have macroed into my RDM set for hate, are Flash, Blind, Bind, Gravity, Dispel and Sleep, with Flash and Blind being the two spells I cast. I have have a <st > macro for Bio for JoL (though not so popular for Ouryu ). Blink and Stoneskin for damage migation.

I don't like soloing much, but I am completely in love with /RDM. I duoed the SCH AF hat fight with ease with a WHM and am convinced I could solo it if I brought some MP refresh gear/meds, and I've also found it far easier to solo stuff in sea for virtue stones. :D

Tanking has been covered, PLD/RDM is pretty good for solo.

Pretty easy to solo Grahs (EM-T), avatars are a joke, I've soloed the Acha D'Amas NM, Aquarius, crap in Sea, etc.
