Today was not a good day in the beer distributor business.

Samuel Adams anounced a partial (which wasn't very, accounted for 75% of the bottled product in our south Jersey market) recall on bottles nationwide today.

They use four different bottlers for their brews, and apparently the one in Illinois that is identified by N35 on the butt of the bottle screwed up. A small percentage of the bottles they bottled contain glass particles, even some with shards of glass contaminating the beer and endarging the consumer.

Draft beer was unaffected.


So those of us in the industry have the joy of HAND inspecting EVERY single Sam Adams bottle in every bar and liquor store from coast to coast (and given a 2 day deadline) to pull it all off the shelves. That means opening every 12 pack, every case, every six pack and physically looking at the bottling code and removing any N35 bottles. The other codes are completely fine, if you have Sam Adams beer in your fridge. The contaiminated beer is apparently only 1% of the N35 marked bottles, but they can't take the chance.



Only reason I decided to post this is I remember quite a few fans on here from our beer threads.

It's not Sam's fault, though it is inevitable that this is going to affect their beer sales. I've already heard the joke when someone at a bar ordered a Summer Ale, saying "hold the glass please". Ugh. Poor Sam.

It's alot of fun trying to explain this to the Indian run liquor stores why we're ripping all their Sam stuff apart. Eventually we just started saying "full credit my friend".

Edit: I just checked my own Summer Ale and Pale Ale bottles in the fridge.

N17 code. I wouldn't have thrown out the bottles if they were N35 anyway.

Imagine boys and girls. We account for the entire half of southern NJ and we're still only less than 10% of their market as a whole. In day 1 of 2, we've gathered over 100,000 cases to be sent back. Imagine nationwide.

It's all going to be destroyed. All of that beer. Wasted. 50-75% of Samuel Adams stock of product lost. Shit rolls down hill, and Boston Beer Co. isn't gonna take this hit I'm sure. The bottling company might want to look for new jobs.

Sam Adams is pretty middle-of-the-road, but it's better than that shit for sure.

I know Sam Adams has like 80 different kinds, but I've had only one and I wanted to spit that shit out. I assume it was just a regular run of the mill flavor.

Budweiser full and Coors full, are not bad beers at all, even MGD is tolerable for me.

Personaly I love both good and bad beer, each have their uses.

Your bad beers, such as Keystone, Pabst Blue Ribbon, Bud Light, Miller Light, Natural Light, Busch, etc are all good and fine for drinking games. Game like Beirut, Beer Pong, Presidents and Assholes, and Flip Cup. You are pounding these down one after another, not looking for taste but to simply get fucked up and not be filled up. These beers are also good for a quick refresher while out fishing, or after some yard work on a hot day. All of the above suit this purpose perfectly, that is their place in the beer world.

Now after you grow up a little bit and develop some taste, you then begin to enter the realm of Premium Lagers, Ales, Stouts, etc.

These beers come in a wide variety of brewing methods and ingredients which directly effect the flavor.

You have your Lagers like Samuel Adams Boston Lager, Smuttynose Portsmouth Lager, Flying Dog, these are all great solid Lagers, with a deep and rich flavor.

These beers you can drink much like you would a normal beer but with the added pleasure of better flavor, and a little bit more kick in the alcohol content. They go great with almost any food, but mainly red meats, also great after a day of work only trade off is they are more filling which many people do not like.

Personally I could go on for hours about this, but my exp party is about to start so I have to digress.

I'm a beer snob and I'm not ashamed of it by any means, hell invite me to a vent and I can talk your ear off for hours about beers.

Oh and Sam Adams also put out a beer pairing guide about which beers to have with which foods, and they recommend a lot of other companies besides their own which is a nice touch and shows their dedication to their craft.
